No, Beverly’s sweetheart shrewdly kept her physical presence hidden from the people in his world in Salem, Illinois. To his friends, she simply did not exist whereas in Shingleton, Michigan where she lived, everyone who knew her knew she had a lover. It was her two years’ worth of cards, letters, notes, presents, and old coins that Tony kept hidden in the drawer. Beverly made this discovery quite by chance.
