Before arranging any kind of meet-up, I decided to discuss it with my work colleagues first. They had rather mixed views, recommending that I ignore him or else keep him waiting as he’d done with me. Another advised me to go for it, saying that this date could be my chance. They were as much at a loss as me and in the end weren’t a great help. Since I’d arrived in France, I hadn’t had one single man in my life. I’d been thinking only of him. And so I agreed to see him. In his next message, he suggested dinner in a restaurant. He admitted that he hoped to “clear things up between us”. I didn’t much like the implication behind the phrase. What did we have to clear up? Would we still like each other?
