Sila entered the office with such a huge smile that it made Sarah and everyone in the office know that something good had happened. Sarah wiggled her body in a dancing form. "Tell me the good news, baby girl," she exclaimed. Sila smiled at her. "Let me at least take a deep breath," she said, changing her demeanor as she noticed everyone's excited gazes upon her. "I finally got fired," she announced, dumbfounded. Sarah's expression shifted instantly. "Oh no, I wasn't expecting that," she said sympathetically. One of Sila's colleagues named Dule, who had always been jealous of her, sniggered with excitement. "Well, I knew it wouldn't end well," she remarked. "No one in any office speaks to their boss in such a manner." She looked at Sila with pity. "I'll advise you shouldn't act too brave in your next job if you want to keep it. I'm only advising as a big sister advising her younger one," she added, giving Sila a fake smile. Sarah responded angrily, "She doesn't show off too much, and besides, why do you seem happy amidst Sila's sadness? Aren't you supposed to be empathetic when someone gets fired?" Sila grew irritated by Dule's reaction. "Well, I got promoted," she declared loudly, lifting her promotion letter in a confident manner. "Wow!" the whole department exclaimed in unison. Sarah quickly ran to Sila to give her a congratulatory hug. "I'm so happy for you, girl," she said, laughing softly. Dule felt embarrassed and guilty as everyone looked at her in disappointment. She scratched the back of her head with a tight-lipped smile. "Congratulations, Sila," she said. "Thank you," Sila reciprocated. "I can't wait to give my parents the good news," she said excitedly, as they all settled into their seats and began typing on their computers. Daniel sat down, observing his mother with amusement as she concentrated on her computer. She noticed Daniel gazing at her but ignored him, knowing what he had in mind. "I'm impressed," Daniel smiled at her. "Keep it to yourself. I don't want to do hear it. besides, I didn't bring you here to supervise me," she said, turning her gaze from the computer to Daniel as she folded her hands under her chin. "Aren't you supposed to be supervising the workers and getting familiar with how things work?" Chidinma asked. Daniel shrunk into his seat, looking at Chidinma surprisingly. "Hmm, I see. Coming from the same person who said I should stop interfering in the company's business five years ago." "Daniel, that was five years ago. You were just 19, obviously too young to manage the company. That's why you were too sympathetic towards everyone," Chidinma explained. "Well, that's my nature. I'm like my father, so you shouldn't think that's going to change just because I'm 24," Daniel replied. Chidinma started to rage. "Daniel, listen. In the kind of world we live in, being too kind to staff members doesn't benefit the company. It will only ruin it if you continue like that, and I won't let you ruin what has taken me years to set up. Do you understand?" she said, holding her ears in frustration. Daniel scratched the back of his ear, looking confused. "Well, I'm just hearing it for the first time that being nice to staffs ruins the company," he remarked. Chidinma interrupted him, yelling furiously, "Daniel, you are getting on my nerves!" "Sorry, ma'am," Daniel said, raising both hands in surrender. "Go and supervise the staff," Chidinma instructed, gesturing towards the door. Daniel raised from his seat. "Okay, ma'am." Chidinma sighed, leaning back in her Herman Miller Aeron chair. "This boy can be so annoying," she muttered to herself. Sila got home very excited making her father who came to open the door for her suspicious and confused. Hmm he smiled at her, this one you are wearing such a pleasant smile. Sila couldn't hold back her excitement. Dad you won't believe it Common Sila you know I don't like it when someone keep my ears waiting for too long when it comes to gist. Haha, papa, are you a woman that likes gossip more than any other thing? But I don't have a job Ethan said giggling spreading forth his hand in a funny way that made Sila guffewin. "Where is Mum?" Sila asked, tossing her neck. "She's in the kitchen making dinner," Ethan replied. "I'm still waiting for the news," he added. "Well, this news is for both of you," Sila said, raising her voice. "Honey!" Ethan called out, "Our daughter has news for us, and she's not saying it if you're not here. Please, can you suspend what you are doing? I don't want to keep guessing." "Ahh, Ethan, how can you say I should turn off the gas just to come and guess when Sila is not running away? Ahh, my husband," Barisi shouted from the kitchen as Ethan and Sila stood in the parlor, chuckling at each other. "Let's go to the kitchen then," Sila suggested, unable to hold back the good news. Sila dropped her lunch bag on the kitchen cabinet and gave her mother a warm hug, greeting her with a good evening. "Guess what, guys?" "Please, can you just say it and stop telling me to guess?" Ethan interrupted. "You resigned?" "No, Mum, far from it." "Your boss apologized?" "Something more, Dad." Barisi put her hands on her waist, giving her daughter an admiring gesture. "I got promoted!" Sila exclaimed, holding up her promotion letter. Barisi sighed heavily, raising her brow. "Wow, I thought that woman was worse. Well, she's lucky for treating my little girl fairly, or else." "Or else what?" Ethan cut in. "She's a very wealthy woman; you can't fight. You women, it's just words you have." "Ahh, Daddy," Sila interrupted him. "Come here, let me give you a hug," he said, opening his arms for Sila as the whole family embraced each other joyfully. The next sunny morning, Ethan prepared breakfast in bed for Sila with the assistance of his wife in the kitchen to celebrate her promotion. He brought her fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and orange juice, all served on a tray adorned with flowers and a love note. Sila woke up to the delicious aroma, greeted by her father's loving smile. "I'm extremely proud to call you my daughter," he said, "I see greatness in your eyes, and I know you are just at the beginning of your success. I love you, my little pumpkin." Barisi tiptoed into Sila's room, slowly opening the door without making a sound. The delicious aroma of breakfast soon stirred Sila from her slumber, and as she blinked her eyes open, she was greeted by the sight of her parents' radiant smiles. She smiled back at them in amusement, glancing at the tray. "Wow, all this for me?" "You are the world's best parents," Sila said, hugging them emotionally. "We are proud of you, Sila." they said in unison.
