Chapter 16 The village in which Lian was born consisted of about thirty typical circular-shaped Mongol huts, randomly distributed on a medium-sized plain, located in the middle of the valley. Although the huts seemed all made according to a similar plan, the sizes and materials of which they were constructed were very diverse, including animal skins, adobe, fabrics and straw. There were no brick buildings due to the nomadic traditions of the Mongol peoples. "When you see a brick dwelling, it's probably an official Chinese building. Mongols and Turkish people are very proud of their yurts as we call our huts."
