Those words echoed in my brain as I hovered above her. My arms trembled slightly where they braced on either side of her head. Not from exertion, but from restraint.
After so many years.
So many goddamn years I had wanted this woman. I’d watched her from across rooms, memorized the sound of her laugh. The way she tucked her hair behind her ear when she was nervous. The curve of her smile when something genuinely amused her.
Those goddamn years of torture and wanting something I could never have.
