It should have made me feel better. But all I could think about was what Nathan would do when he found out about them. He would kill me. Or them. Or all of us.
"Hey." Nico's voice cut through my thoughts. He crouched down in front of me so we were eye level. "Where did you go just now?"
"I'm scared," I said.
Nico reached up and cupped my face in his hands. His palms were warm and rough. "He's not going to touch you. Do you understand? He will never put his hands on you again."
"You can't promise that."
"Yes I can." His eyes were dark and deadly serious. "Because if he tries, I will end him."
I believed him. That was the terrifying part. I looked into Nico's eyes and saw a man who was capable of violence. Who would commit it without hesitation if it meant protecting me.
