~Vivian~ Two officers approached us, their hands resting on their holsters as they took in the scene. “What’s going on here?” one of them demanded, his sharp gaze flicking between Nathan, Ian, and me. Nathan immediately straightened and slipped the knife behind his back in one smooth motion. His entire demeanor shifted in an instant. The wild, furious man from moments ago was gone, replaced by the polished, composed version of himself that everyone else saw. “Officer,” he said smoothly, “There’s no problem here. Just a slight misunderstanding between me and my wife.” I flinched at the word wife, the way it rolled off his tongue like a weapon.
