Chapter 3

The warmth of the room smelt rich and soft music played in the background. I stood there with my back ache taking a proper glance at what we'd done. Gabby and Thalia had begun welcoming guests at the doorway entrance. Her voice sounded so accommodating and collected, filled with raised humility. Gabby on the other hand looked graceful but uncomfortable. He's not good at handling large crowds. For the first time, they seem better together. I paid critical attention to the room, looking intently at every piece of decor if I spotted any imperfection, but everything was unsurprisingly still in place. Cars of different sorts were packed out. I sighted a few; Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, and a whole lot of them. I was out in a position where my lingering eyes couldn't keep counting. Particularly, this black Porsche Taycan 2024 model drifted my attention from the others, can't lie, it was earnestly cute. Probably because I have a fling for Porsche cars. I was exactly more attracted to one of the males that got out. Swiftly, I let out a whisper, asking Lina if she knew the males had just stepped out of the car. Their appearance, and attire exude premium, I felt an aura of higher affluence The well-proportioned body, six feet, brilliant green-eyed male who was listening to the other male talking was so gorgeous, his looks commandeering, his style so enchanting, his smile irresistible. With the slightest observation so far, it's safe to say he's an alp... Yes, he's the alpha of moonshine, Lina completed. My wonder stopped instantly. I've never been drawn to anyone less than two minutes after seeing them. Like I've never been attracted to anyone before. Why is he so fine? Unknowingly, that was the only word I could reason and unexpectedly voice out, my heart pounding like the rhythms of a cymbal. Lina curtly let out a chuckle, an indication that she eventually heard what I said last. You know, you can approach him later at the party. Of course, I know we aren't allowed to speak with any of the guests, but it'll be a good job for me to create a means. That'd be very unnecessary and inconvenient, you know that Lina. He's not even aware of me, and you're already making arrangements. He doesn't have a mate yet and I know you can see that. Meaning if you're able to show off some little interest by engaging in a conversation with him, you two could probably become... perhaps a thing. For a while, she stopped intruding in my thoughts which gave me more time to think better. I'm glad you've stopped with the hope that you won't continue. I'd rather not end up unhappy, just like Thalia is to Gabby. You could see them forcing things over there, no connection. Gabby is just with her, just like he has been with other girls. The difference is she seemed to have lasted longer than the rest and that's weird because she's the worst behaved. And I I I I... Yes, I know you like him, and I don't see that as a problem. Lina finished my sentence before I could recover from my anxious stammering. No, I don't, stop. It beats me how you want to hide your emotions from me, you're concealing the truth from yourself and that's very disturbing. You should be aware I know you so well honey, I watched you grow up. You only stutter when you're tense, not welcomed or nerv... Oh, you're nervous. She sniggered hysterically that I wanted to hide so badly. He could hear us. Be silent Lina, please. My face almost became red from embarrassment even if he wasn't particularly here. Yes, I'm nervous, I know, I mean I don't know how to describe it. It's strange, I weakly let out accepting some of her words. For every single wave of feeling you're experiencing right now, I understand it. I was there when I first met mine. That makes me relate to what you entirely feel, Aprica. It's safe to say you're in love No, I'm not, I'm I'm I'm... not. I didn't say so You don't need to argue it, hun! Undoubtedly your undertone describes it, your obvious change of behavior is a testament that you're it. I let out an exasperated sigh, an indication that I'd given up on what she concluded. But I don't have a wolf yet. Finally, I protested. I'm a thin, pale, poor Omega. I hardly get noticed except for my insecurities and when I'm bullied, and you feel an exclusive man that will think me to be his mate? It is divine sweetheart, we're blessed by the moon goddess with it. A lot of she-wolves will be here today that have more sophisticated looks, wealth personified, class-oriented, worthy to look at when they pass, and of course, have a wolf, with emphasis on "wolf". A wolfless female like me shouldn't be seen engaging in a conversation with a prowess alpha of a reputable pack. What if you have a wolf? Maybe she could be asleep, awaiting to be awakened, perhaps this could be the moment. That should be the most unreasonable and thoughtless thing she will do to me. What is the wait for, haven't I suffered enough? My throat suddenly became heavy. I'm so sorry, but it'll be inappropriate if you let that teardrop, you'll ruin the little touches I had done on your face. Your wolf might be waiting for her mate to be jostled up, to come alive. This only happens with a few wolves, and if what I'm saying is true, then you're amongst the special ones. I do not want that! That came as a loud whisper. I had to check my surroundings if people were staring at me, but they were too busy enjoying the scenery and ambiance, will count that as a bit of luck. This is just an infatuation, Lina, I assure you, and it happens to be my first. That's why you're exaggerating the situation. But wait, probably you're correct with your explanation, is that why I'm having this tingling sensation around my body, makes me feel as though a light is burning inside me. I don't know what that means, but I have no better way to explain it. Are you sure you're feeling so Aprica? I mean, I know you're, but with what you are saying the only thing I can depict is that that gorgeous-looking man standing over there is a potential mate of yours, do you even realize that? She finished returning a sheepish grimace. Cut to the chase Lina, look around, Guests are all over, the Omegas you assigned are dutifully doing what you told them to, and here are gossiping about my silly infatuation. Regardless Aprica, I'm watching you. This could be it. You don't have to say it again. She laughed more sillier than before and then we departed. ***** It's almost dawn, my vision has become opaque due to the endless streaming of tears. All I could think of was how my night miserably ended. To a certain degree, I understand how humiliation feels like, I've experienced different phases of it, but last night was a unique kind. It was top tier. I've never felt so harassed in front of so many people. It happened so fast. Gabby and Thalia's table was opposite that of the handsome alpha. Anywhere I went I felt his eyes following me. The persistent tingling sensation continued ravaging my body, then I felt so uneasy, tripped and fell. With the tray of glass wine in my hand, I landed almost on the floor. The rich strong masculine cologne I sensed beneath me sent signals to my brain that I was in his arms. I couldn't find it believing either plausible. I just laid in his hands accepting he's my superhero at the moment. I watched as his opulent jade green iris plunged into mine. The luring effect of it was so enthralling. I couldn't look away, neither did he. I perceived his looks penetrating deeply into my soul, his lingering breath pleasantly warm and the sweetest thing I've ever smelt. Ever so slightly, his broad hands were around my curves, which held my waist and deprived me of falling. I was thrilled but it wasn't as long as I wanted it. With the slightest force, he pulled me up exposing part of his virile features. Unexpectedly, I was welcomed with a reverberant slap, it was so loud that it distracted over one-third of the audience. Another wallop almost rested again on my face, but like my unpaid bodyguard, he held Thalia's hand, leaving it hanging in the air. His glowing eyes made her retract her actions, then she began ranting in an uncouth way. You clumsy wolfless i***t! Then I realized I had spilled the wine on her, just a spot on her ivory silk dress. How can you be so myopic? She continued in her domineering voice, her veins springing effortlessly from her neck. With my head bent downwards, I remained in my docile state, controlling the pooled tears in my lids so as not to escape. At this point everyone was gazing, some of which were already involved in porky whispers. She proceeded in her conspicuous pitch. Even if you reincarnated twice, your worthless life won't be able to pay for this dress, not even your unknown dead parents will be able to afford it. Blind bastard! Normally, I ignore most things she says to me, because I know she's always mad, and as such say any hurtful thing she thinks it's going to ruin me. Specifically, this one broke my back, I've never felt so valueless. She even brought my innocent parents to spite me more. I wasn't supposed to serve last night, but she made me do it, even with my attire to humiliate me more. I had no say, saying it was unfair or not. I had to do it without Gabby even obliging. Slowly, he's gradually becoming like a remote toy to her without even him realizing it.
