We stood together near the entrance, our eyes sweeping across every corner of the space. My gaze drifted from the high ceiling down to the spotless floorboards, taking in the full layout of the room. It certainly wasn't a royal suite, but it wasn't a dungeon either.
Not too bad, honestly, I thought to myself, letting out a quiet breath I didn't realize I was holding. It’s definitely manageable.
Still, something felt a bit missing. The walls were bare, the paint was flat, and the entire room felt somehow too plain, lacking any warmth or personal touch that would make it feel like a real home.
Nicholas walked over toward the far wall, his boots tapping softly against the floor. Aligned neatly along the wooden paneling were four tall storage cupboards, each positioned directly parallel to one of the four beds. He reached out, taking hold of the brass handle of the first cupboard and pulling it open with a smooth click before moving down the line to open the rest.
"These will be your cupboards—one for each of you," he explained, stepping back to let us see inside. The shelves were already stocked with neatly folded garments, basic nightwear, towels, and extra linens. "There are already clothes inside and pretty much everything else you might need to settle in properly."
He then gestured for us to follow him toward a short, narrow hallway off to the side. He pushed open two matching doors, revealing two clean, functional bathrooms equipped with basic plumbing, mirrors, and shower stalls.
"You can share these amongst yourselves," Nicholas noted, sweeping his hand toward the facilities. "Two people per toilet and bathroom. You can all find a way to organize your schedules and get along with each other."
With the tour finished, Nicholas strolled back toward the main entrance of the bedroom. He turned around, leaning one shoulder lightly against the wooden doorframe, his dark eyes scanning our faces as he folded his arms across his chest.
"Well, with all that being said and done," he began, his voice calm and steady, "does any of you have any questions before I leave?"
My stomach let out a quiet, sudden growl, reminding me just how long it had been since I last had a proper meal. I raised my hand slightly, taking a small step forward.
"Where are we going to be eating?" I asked, my tone completely honest as I rubbed my hand against my stomach. "Because I can't lie... I'm really hungry right now. Like, extremely hungry."
A amused smirk touched the corners of Nicholas's lips, and he shook his head softly.
"Food is definitely not a problem here," Nicholas reassured us, his tone light and easy. "In fact, you’re going to have more than enough food to eat. You'll be eating at the exact same times as the rest of the staff—breakfast in the morning and supper in the evening. There are always desserts available, along with optional lunches prepared for all the maids, guards, and general workers, so you won't go hungry."
He paused for a second, a thoughtful look crossing his face before he continued.
"Plus, the head cook in charge of Alpha Lucien's special dishes is very accommodating," he added. "You can get on her good side, and she can prepare virtually anything you want. In fact, I’ll personally communicate with the kitchen staff so they know to make whatever special meals you girls might feel like having."
Abigail let out a soft, nervous laugh, a slight smile breaking through the tension on her face as her eyes softened.
"You make us feel so calm and at home," Abigail admitted, her shoulders relaxing just a bit before her expression darkened again. "But the Alpha... he makes us feel like we are about to die at any moment."
Nicholas’s smile instantly vanished. His posture went rigid, and his gaze turned sharp and dead serious as he looked at each of us in turn.
"You all need to be extremely careful around my brother," Nicholas warned, his voice dropping into a stern, heavy register that sent a chill through the room. "He isn't joking around. He is fully capable of killing any one of you at any given moment if you cross him. So make sure you fulfill your duties perfectly, do what you are told, and stay out of his way. Avoid getting into trouble with him—at least for now, until his temper cools down."
He took a step back into the hallway, pausing at the threshold to give us one last long, steady look.
"So, with all that being said and done, I think I'll be heading out now," Nicholas concluded, gesturing broadly toward the room. "You all can find your way from here, handle your assigned duties, and try your best to survive."
