It's been five years. Five f*****g years since he died. I couldn't save him fast enough. The guilt still eats at me and I can't move on. My therapist is adding more prescriptions. I'm numb. I can't smile, I can't laugh, I can't feel a thing. Insomnia is my biggest partner these days. The nightmares keep on coming though less persistent. Today, it's snowing more than it does on every Christmas Eve. He passed away on this day. A day before our second anniversary. A day which we were meant to be happy. I'm buying his favorite flowers scarlet roses. They remind me of his scent. I'm at a different country so I won't be able to put them on his grave. The flowers are prepared beautifully and I thank the attendant before leaving for my company,my chest constricting. The decide walk is more crowded with people trying to get to their cars and the bus station. I tighten my coat around me and inhale the flowers deeply. f**k, I miss him. The snowflakes fall gently on the roses, making them same ethereal. They used to match him perfectly and we would plant the roses in our garden every now and then. As i'm turning a corner someone brushes past me almost colliding into me and I just look down at them. They are wearing all black, plus a mask, heavy fur scarf, a black furry hat and a pair of leather gloves. But they do not get far. The bump into an approaching man and fall down ass on the floor. The furry hat is knocked off revealing long dark red hair braided in two pigtails. I stop in my tracks and look closely. "Be careful, Chica," the man they bumped into says, helping them up. " I'm so sorry," they say and I feel my blood turn cold as the air knocks off from my lungs. That voice. I'm hallucinating, again, I'm sure. They turn to pick the fallen hat and I get a clear view of their face. It's him. My love, my life. A pained groan leaves my lips before I can even control it and I whisper, "Phoenix?". His eyes snap up to me but there's something wrong. There's no hint of recognition in those green orbs I've cried over. He stands, straighter and tilts his head, confused at my reaction. "Are you alright, sir?" He asks and I can't respond. He puts the hat back on and gives me a small smile. The man he bumped into has already left. "Merry Christmas, sir," he says,, tipping his hat and almost walks away, when I shout, "Phoenix, wait!" He turns to me and says gently as though calming down a crazy man, " Sir, I'm not Phoenix. My name is Isis. I'm sorry if I remind you of Phoenix." Then he walks away, fast. My husband, my late husband is alive and he just walked away as if I'm a total stranger but now, I don't think death will be able to do us part, again.
