I can’t believe I let Wendy get that close to my mate. I should have seen it coming. She was always the jealous type. Hell, the crazy b***h rejected her mate in hopes that I would be happy that she chose me. It was at that point that I knew I needed to cut her off. She was becoming way too obsessed. I thought distance over the last twenty years would calm her down, but I guess I was wrong.
So, now I can’t let Genevieve out of my sight until Wendy is completely off school property. I thought about canceling the rest of my classes for today, but it’s my first day back and that probably wouldn’t go over well. So, I led Genevieve to the gym for third period, swords and claws.
Swords and claws focuses a lot on all kinds of combat, especially for newly shifted wolves who learn how to fight in and out of wolf form against those who use weapons or sometimes against other wolves focus on a variety of other species. We don’t exactly encourage students to go to war once they leave this school, but we do encourage them to know how to defend themselves in the instance that war does befall them. After all, not everyone is always going to get along and it's very common with werewolf packs to fight over mates or territory or because someone’s ego has got too big and they need to be knocked down a bit. There’s also often the threat of rogue wolves attacking packs.
“Alright, class! Let's get started. Today we’re focusing on hand-to-hand combat. That being said, everyone gets one dagger to fight with. It is only to be used if you’re about to lose or to stake the claim once you win, no harming one another with the weapon.” I explained the rules to the class and everyone grabs a single dagger hanging from the wall. I keep Genevieve by my side until everyone else grabs their weapon.
Genevieve and I are the last to pick our daggers. “You’re with me,” I whispered into her ear. She nods.
“Everyone, pick an opponent and begin sparring!” I shouted out.
Genevieve and I face each other, our daggers strapped to our thighs. I told her to attack. When she was younger, I watched her take martial arts classes, so I learned her moves.
First Genevieve kicks with her left, I dodge out of the way swiftly. As she gives a right hook. This one I let clip me in the chin. She hits harder than I thought so it takes me a moment to regain myself, but as soon as she tries to land another blow, I dodge and I sweep my left foot out at her ankles. She tries to jump out of the way but ends up tripping over my foot anyway. She starts to fall onto her back. I instantly teleport to stop her from hitting her head on the ground, before she lands on my chest she manages to flip midair and lands in such a way that she is now straddling me with a dagger at my throat.
“You win little mate,” I said, smiling up at her. She might not know a lot about combat and I might have let her win this time, but she was pretty decent for someone with no actual combat experience.
“Though, I will say if you don’t get off of me soon I am not responsible for what happens next.” I winked at her, making her blush, which just turned me on that much more. Man, she’s going to be the death of me.
She hurriedly gets up and I notice the rest of the students are already staring at us. After that, I decided that I don’t care. I’m canceling the rest of my classes for the day.
Finally, I get up and yelled out, “Class dismissed!” Everyone quickly files out of the classroom, leaving behind me and Genevieve, and one other girl.
“Did you need anything?” I asked the girl. She was currently standing in the middle of the classroom just staring at us.
The girl finally decided to walk towards where Genevieve and I were standing.
“I honestly thought we’d never meet again.” The girl directed toward Genevieve. Do these two know each other? I don’t know how that would be possible. I've watched over Genevieve since she was born. I would know if she’s had any interaction with non-human species.
“How do you two know each other?” I asked the random girl with strawberry blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She was about the same height as Genevieve and her skin was equally as pale.
“Well, that’s a bit of a difficult question to answer because we don’t know each other. However, Genevieve here is my twin sister.” My eyes widened at that and I recalled a memory that had been locked away in the depths of my mind.
*Flashback*
“Kye! They’re here! The princesses!” My younger sister, Kira exclaimed, as she burst into the room. I was currently kneeling in front of an altar to the goddess Selene, praying for a safe delivery. Just moments ago, I felt an intense bond snap into place. I assumed it was the bond of a protector, but based on what past protectors told me, it was more intense than it should have been. I just hope everything is okay.
“Take me to her,” I told Kira as I stood up from my kneeling position.
“There’s two of them, Kye! Twins, can you believe it, Kye!” Kira exclaimed. I stopped in my tracks. Twins? The witch doctor never said anything about twins.
“It can’t be, twins are so rare in the royal fae line.” Twins are looked upon with admiration for the fae. They always tend to be immensely powerful and sought after, but for twins born of Royal Blood from the fae and True Alpha blood from the wolves as well as Royal witch blood from the Coven of elements, these two will be the most powerful beings in all of existence. As such, they must be kept apart and kept safe until they reach their rightful age.
We reached the nursery and I looked at the Queen and king who are holding their daughters. Both had tears in their eyes. They’ve come to the same realization I just did.
“Kye, thank you for joining us.” The Queen held out her hand for me to take. I do and am instantly drawn to the small child in her arms. She had a head full of red hair much like her mother, her eyes a pale green like her father's eyes. “Kye, meet Genevieve, the firstborn and the one you’re sworn to protect.”
“She’s my mate,” I whispered out, staring at the small child before me.
“Even more reason to trust you with her safety,” The Queen replied.
“We have to separate the two. Otherwise, they’ll be in even greater danger than they already are.” The King explained.
“We’ve concluded that Genevieve will stay in the Castle with us unless something happens to us. Then, if that happens, we want her bound to the Mortal realm until her seventeenth birthday.” The Queen stated.
“As for Carolynn, we want Kira to take her and protect her. Kira will live as if Carolynn is hers. She’ll teach Carolynn magic starting at a young age, both fae, and witch magic. However, she is not to learn of her werewolf abilities until she gains her wolf.”
“That being said, we will need to alter everyone’s memories of the princesses. We can’t let anyone find out about the twins.” With that the plan was set in motion, The King and I worked together to create the spell that would eventually bind Genevieve to the Mortal Realm. We also used fae magic to alter the minds of the entire Kingdom of Starlight and killed the witch doctor because we knew he probably knew about the twins and witch doctors’ memories couldn’t be altered. They weren’t inherently evil or inherently good, but it was always better to be safe than sorry.
Then, two years after the princesses were born, the kingdom was attacked and what we had been trying to prevent, came to fruition.
*End Flashback*
“Carolynn?” I ask. The girl just smiles and nods her head.
“How’s Kira?” I asked about my little sister. She had just turned twenty when we became separated. She was young for a fate and to be raising a child on her own like that at such a young age must have been hard.
“Mom is great. She found her mate a couple of months ago. He’s a Fae Dragon and they’re constantly butting heads, but they love each other very much.” Carolynn said in admiration for her mother.
“Carolynn, why don’t you come out to eat with me and Genevieve for lunch?” I asked, wanting to learn more about the life of my mate's twin.
“Alright, I’d love to know more about my twin sister.” Carolynn beamed.
“She doesn’t talk, not yet anyway,” I tell Carolynn and she frowns a bit at that. She was hoping to talk to Genevieve.
“That’s fine, I’ll just be happy to spend time with my twin,” Carolynn stated.
With that, we headed to a nice steak house located at the far end of campus.
