Chapter 4 (Genevieve)

1146 Words
Mr.Garrett and I reached my second class of the day, Ancient History, and I instantly headed to an empty seat in the back of the classroom. “Mr. Garrett!” I heard a high-pitched voice exclaim as soon as I leave Kye’s side. As I take my seat, I focus on their interaction. Who is she? How does she know Kye? I know they’re both teachers so they probably know each other because of that, but for some reason, something about their interaction doesn’t sit right with me. “So nice to see you again! It’s been entirely too long!” Maybe they went to school together? They look about the same age after all. “Nice to see you again, Miss. Evangeline,” Kye replied. So they seem to have some sort of history together. Miss. Evangeline tried to grab onto Mr. Garrett’s arm in a flirty way but he pulls away before she can touch him. She’s sulking after that. “Anyways, I brought a new student, Miss. Evangeline. Treat her with the utmost respect.” With that, Mr. Garrett turned and looked at me, he gave me a small reassuring smile before turning around and walking down the hall. Miss. Evangeline turned towards me and started walking. She looked to be in a bad mood after her encounter with Mr. Garrett. “What is your name, girl?” She asked, venom laced with her words. What did I do? I remained silent, and she seemed not to like that. “Oh, so you want to be disrespectful and not answer me when I speak to you?” I saw Miss. Evangeline started to raise her hand like she was going to hit me. I flinched back preparing for the blow that was about to come. What did I do to deserve this? My father rarely raised his hand at me even when drunk, but it happened occasionally. So I knew this was going to hurt. When her hand didn’t hit me like I thought it would, I opened my eyes and I hadn’t even realized I had shut them. Before me, stood Mr. Garrett and he looked vengeful even if I could only see his back. He was holding tight onto Miss. Evangeline’s wrist. It looked about ready to break. “Why Kye? Why does she deserve respect? Who is she to you? Why do you care so much about what happens to her?” Miss Evangeline asked, tears running down her face. Had she not just tried to hit me, I would have felt sorry for her. Right now, though, I feel no remorse towards her. She was vile in trying to hit a student for why? I wasn’t even sure myself. “I don’t owe you an explanation, Wendy! You had no right to try to lay your hand on her and seeing as you disobeyed a direct order from a member of the high council and a direct subordinate of the fae Kingdom of Starlight, I Kye Xavier Garrett revoke the teaching rights of Wendy Merigold Evangeline and deem her a traitor to the crown of Starlight she is no longer permitted in the Kingdom of Fae for here and forevermore.” With that Wendy screams in agony as a red symbol is engraved permanently on her forehead between her eyes. “How could you, Kye? Baby? Please don’t do this to me? I beg of you Kye!” Wendy pleaded. Kye just pushed her away from him in disgust. I wanted to ask him why he saved me when he turned around to face me, but I couldn’t. I haven’t been able to talk in so many years that I no longer know how to use my voice. He looked at me with so much concern in his eyes, like he truly cared about me and cared if I was okay. “Are you okay Gen?” Kye whispered so only I could hear him. I nodded. “She didn’t hurt you, right?” I shook my head and gave him a little smile. Hoping to show how grateful I was to him for saving me. Kye sighed and gave a small smile in return. “After what just happened I don’t want to let you out of my sight, Gen. What if I’m not able to get to you on time next time? I wouldn’t be able to live with that.” He had a pained expression thinking about what could have happened. I decided to pull out a pen and paper to try to ask him why he cared so much. Why? Why did you stop her? Why do you care what happens to me? The note read. I handed it to Kye, scared and nervous to find out if he'd answer or not. “The answer is quite simple, before you were even born I was appointed as your guardian or your personal guard if you will, but once you were born, it went even deeper than that. It was that day that I found out you were my mate and that was reason enough to care for you and to make sure no one would ever harm you.” I looked at him confused. Mate? Is he talking about soulmates? Like in all those werewolf books I used to read and a couple that I wrote. I swear this is almost like a fantasy. It can't be real, can it? I feel like I’m going to fall asleep anytime now and wake up and it’s all just going to be some kind of dream. “Come with me, Gen. I’m not letting you out of my sight for the rest of today.” I took Kye’s outstretched hand and instantly purple sparks erupt from our joined hands. I looked at Kye, trying to plead with my eyes for him to explain what that was. “It’s the mate bond between witches. I’m a half-witch and half-fae. You, my dear, are part fae, part werewolf, and part witch. Once they are at least eighteen years of age, they can feel their mate's presence if they know what to look for. Werewolves can find their mate on the first full moon after their seventeenth birthday. Witches, however, have a much harder time finding their mate, though they can technically find their mate at birth. The first time a witch touches their mate's hand, sparks will emit from their hands indicating they’re mates.” Kye explained. Honestly, that’s cool. I nodded my head to Kye with a smile on my lips. So, Kye is my mate. Cool, I mean he is very attractive and kind, but how old is he? He looks to be at least twenty-four, but he acts older and some things he says make it seem as though he is much older than he looks.
