Chapter 6 (Genevieve)

1186 Words
Carolynn, whom I guess is my twin sister, Kye, my mate, and I all walk out of the school building, it’s lunchtime and I’m famished. I never knew I had a sister, let alone a twin sister. It makes me wonder how she knew. Maybe it had something to do with that Kira person Kye mentioned? I’m not sure. I felt the truth behind Carolynn’s words, but I honestly don’t know how to feel about this situation. It’s always just been me and Charles and then I find out I’m some princess with a twin sister. Not to mention the fact that my protector is also my mate and I’m supposed to have these amazing powers. Sometimes I wish I could use my voice, but after so long, I don’t know how to use my voice. Plus, I don’t know if I can trust these two people. Kye hasn’t given me a reason not to trust him and I feel in time I’ll be able to speak to him. Carolynn, on the other hand, is still a new variable. She seems sweet and honest enough, and something tells me I do share some sort of connection with her. I just don’t know what exactly it is or what it means. Currently, I’m sitting in the front seat of Kye’s car, while Carolynn is sitting in the back. Kye said he'd take us to a nice steak house that borders Whitmore’s territory as well as a werewolf pack's territory. Turns out Whitmore Academy, though it’s a school primarily for all mystical and supernatural creatures, is located in the center of five werewolf packs, with the school grounds being neutral territory. The steak house is on the border of the Silver Diamond pack. So it took a good twenty minutes to get to the restaurant. “So, Carolynn, how was it being raised by Kira?” Kye asked. “It was nice, mom was always wonderful, she taught me fae and witch magic from a very young age, though it wasn’t until my thirteenth birthday that she let me know about who I truly was. It was then that she told me I was one of the twin fae princesses. That no one was allowed to know about that because it would put me and my twin in grave danger. That I was sent away to live as a normal, fae-witch hybrid until the year I would enter Whitmore Academy for the Mystical and Supernatural at the age of fifteen. She said it was then that I would meet my twin sister and in time our true power would be unlocked and we would be extremely powerful. She would often talk about her brother Kye, whom she hoped I’d meet one day.” Carolynn looked at Kye when she said that last part. “Sounds like Kira raised you well,” Kye said. She had a better life than I did. Though my life wasn’t always bad, there was a time when I was loved by my family and we were happy. We would often go out to eat or to the movies. We always had big celebrations at our house and life was good back then, but then I confided in my mother about the shadow people and she believed me because she said she saw them as well. She started talking to papa about them and eventually told people at her work and they would all look at her like she was crazy. It was slowly chipping away at her, even before I told her I saw them as well. She was becoming more unhinged about the shadows by the day. Eventually, she went to a psychiatrist and they said she was schizophrenic and would soon become a danger to society, so the government ordered her to be put into an insane asylum. At first, we would visit her, but whenever I went she seemed to get worse. So, eventually, I stopped being allowed to go see her. She would still write to me occasionally for a while. She would give the letters to Charles, who would give them to me. Eventually, our father decided to stop allowing Charles to deliver the letters. He felt that his wife would never get better if she had any contact with me at all. Things got worse when father started drinking. He started to drink all the time, and he blamed me, at the age of twelve, for his wife's condition. He told me I wasn’t his daughter and that I didn’t belong there. He said taking me in was the worst mistake he ever made. Sometimes, though only occasionally, he would hit me. He even told me to kill myself on numerous occasions. If it weren’t for Charles stopping me when I was thirteen, I would have fulfilled my father's wishes. Ever since then, Charles had stayed by my side while we were at home. It was then that we became even closer. He would defy Father when Father told him to stay away from me. Father never lashed out at Charles though. Things got better when Charles was with me. The hitting became nonexistent and he stopped telling me to kill myself in front of his only son. “Genevieve? Are you okay?” Kye asked. “Yeah.” I squeaked out. It’s barely audible and I’m not sure Kye, who is sitting less than a foot away from me, heard what I said. I nodded my head. Kye wiped my eyes. I hadn’t even realized I had been crying. “Baby, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” Kye asked. He had so much concern in his voice. Honestly, I didn’t even know why I was crying. I never cried before when my father said or did all those awful things to me and yet here I am, crying. Something I swore I would never do again. Kye wrapped his arms around me and it was like a dam broke inside of me. All the pain and hurt I’d experienced over the last five years started pouring out of me. I know it’s not Carolynn’s fault, but part of me wishes I had grown up like her, and with a loving and caring family that knew this world instead, I now have to navigate my way through a world I know nothing about. I had to endure so much abuse over the last few years and now I don’t know how to react to any of this. Over the last few years, all I had was Charles and now I don’t even have him and I don’t know if I’ll ever see my brother again. Then I’m just supposed to be okay with coming to this strange world, learning I'm some overpowered princess, I have a twin sister and a mate who has been sworn to protect me since I was born, yet where was he when my father said those awful things; when my father would hit me? With that thought, I pushed myself away from Kye and ran out of Silver Diamond Steak House.
