CHAPTER 7
RULES OF THE GAME
ELARA’S POV
The ride home was silent.
Not the kind of peaceful silence, this was heavy and suffocating and I could literally feel the tension rising in the car.
Back at the party, Elias practically dragged me out of the hall immediately the event was over, and this time, I couldn’t stop him. He was way too furious for me to say no.
Elias sat beside me in the backseat of the car, I could feel his heavy breathing and his arm lazily stretched across the leather seat of the car.
The streetlights revealing the dangerous calm in his expression through the tinted window.
I knew this expression.
I knew this version of him, so well.
This was worse than shouting, way worse.
I kept my eyes fixed on the passing street outside, pretending not to feel the chocking tension in the air.
My wrist was still hurting from the way he grabbed me at the party.
But somehow, all I could think about right now was Cillian…
I could still feel Cillian’s hands around my waist, gently claiming me, making me feel like his touch was the only thing I wanted to feel amidst the chaos.
Was I supposed to be thinking about him right now?
What was wrong with me!
“You embarrassed me tonight,” he finally spoke, breaking the uncomfortable silence between us.
“I…” he didn’t let me finish before cutting me off again.
“Did you sleep with my brother?” he asked way too calmly.
“No,” I replied faster than I should have.
“You are a terrible Liar,”
I wasn’t exactly lying, I just didn’t know they were brothers until now.
“Well, I didn’t know he was your brother.”
That made him finally turn towards me fully.
“You didn’t know? And yet you were comfortable with his hands around your waist.”
“Oh please Elias, like you didn’t bring a woman to the party claiming to be your date.”
“She is my colleague,”
“And he’s my boss”
Elias laughed so loudly, the air in the car became even more comfortable. The driver noticed and tried slowing down a bit. Somehow, I began to get angry. Why does he think he gets to question me, while he is the one doing all the cheating?
“You don’t get to act jealous”
“Really?” My emotions trying to get a hang of me “I don’t get to act jealous? But you were practically dry-humping another woman a week ago Elias”
“I get to choose what and what not to do, but you,” he said “you don’t get to make that choice. You are my wife.”
“Only when it’s convenient for you Elias.”
His jaw tightened, his expression became rather unreadable.
“You’ve changed Elara,”
“No,” I whispered, “I just stopped begging to be seen and loved by you.”
I was rather impressed with myself for how I controlled my emotions and not letting it get the best of me, while Elias, he was not having any of this, at all.
“You think Cillian wants the best for you?” he asked bitterly, “every f*****g thing I have, he wants too, including you.” He eyes were buried deep into mine and in that moment, I was scared he might actually do more than just hurting my wrist.
“My brother doesn’t just save people Elara, he ruins them, never having to find their spark anymore. And don’t think you are special,” he continued. “you are just one his toys he’s ready to dump when he eventually gets bored.”
My mind went back to Cillian, his gestures taking my senses, his word, and his whispers in my ears…
MINE
God!
What the hell am I getting myself into?
Elias suddenly grabbed my chin hard enough to hurt.
“You belong to me,” he hissed. “Don’t ever forget that.”
I pushed his hands away.
“I am not your property.”
Elias stared at me for a terrifyingly long period of time, before finally leaning back slowly.
“Interesting.”
The car went quiet again.
We finally pulled into the mansion driveway, which was an intense ride I must say.
I opened the door of the car before the driver could and ran up the stairs and into the mansion.
“Elara,”
Elias called behind me, loosening his tie
“I got a call from the hospital earlier,” Elias said, making me stop halfway through.
My heart stopped.
I had a feeling where this was headed.
“What,”
He grabbed a bottle of whiskey and poured it into a cup.
“Leo’s treatment payment is due for tomorrow morning.”
Don’t let this be what I’m thinking…
“But you already approved his payment for this month.”
“I changed my mind.”
Panic exploded in my mind and body immediately.
“Elias…”
“You seem confused lately, I figured a reminder could help.” He interrupted smoothly.
“Elias please, you can’t do this, Leo need those treatments”
“Then you should start acting like my wife again!”
My vision blurred, my senses confused. I felt tears starting to form, almost dropping.
“You’re Evil”
“No,” he said calmly,” I’m practical” taking in another glass of whiskey, like he didn’t just threaten my brother’s life.
“You know what your problem is, Elara?” he continued, “you keep waiting for someone to rescue you, but nobody ever does.”
He took his last glass of whiskey and went up the stairs, leaving me stranded.
I felt defeated.
Stuck.
The second I heard his bedroom door close, my legs gave out and I collapsed on the couch, placing my trembling hands against my mouth, to stop myself from sobbing loudly.
God.
I was trapped.
Again.
Then my phone buzzed, and a notification popped up.
From an unknown number.
I quickly wiped my tears and opened the message.
There were attached videos and pictures of my husband with different women, kissing and touching them.
And below was a single message.
You deserve better.
Cillian.
I mean, who else would it be? Who wlseelse would dare send something like this.
I was still trying to process the message when another message popped.
The mansion security system, someone had delivered a package.
Confused, I stood up and walked slowly to the front door and found a box outside the door.
I looked left and right, saw no one. I picked up the box and went straight to my room.
No sender name, but somehow, I already knew who it was from.
Then I opened it
A diamond necklace.
It was breathtaking.
Extremely beautiful.
And far too expensive.
Below the necklace was a note, and it read.
Wear this tomorrow for me--- C.
I stared at the note longer than I should have, this man was something else.
I was smiling like a fool.
Then I heard a loud knock on my door.
Sharp.
Cold and furious.
“Elara?”
Elias, what does he want?
My blood ran cold, as I stared at the necklace in the box glittering before me.
