Chapter Two

1203 Words
Festus Tribbiani alighted the elevator and was just walking towards his office when Audrey; his assistant caught up with him, 'Good morning Mr Tribbiani' she said balancing his coffee and what smells like a cinnamon roll. 'Good morning, Audrey,' he replied 'nice weekend?' 'Not really' she replied with a sad look. Audrey with a sad look on a Monday morning, that's strange. She's always full of tales of a particular girlfriend of hers: a childhood friend of some sort he thought as he followed Audrey into his office, genuinely concerned about her. 'How's Toby doing?' Setting the coffee tray and snacks down, Audrey dusted imaginary dust off her cream Addison fitted suit. That caught Festus' attention, 'okay Audrey spill, what's on your mind?' he said while reaching for a cinnamon roll. The roll tastes heavenly, 'this is nice' he told his assistant who still looks like she was bursting with news to tell him. This was amusing, Audrey was always chatting although good-natured. She never hurt anyone and all the over 200 staff adore her. Audrey had been with him for six years now, straight from college he employed the intelligent redhead and he has never regretted doing so. She is efficient and she has come to be like the little sister he always wished he had. His only doubt about her was when she got married, he thought that would change how diligent she was. But the reverse was the case, she gave Tribbiani Holdings her all, and he can say she is one great asset he cannot afford to lose in the company. Except for that one time when Selina almost made him fire her, he shook his head no thoughts of Selina were allowed on a Monday morning or any time of any day for that matter. Reaching for a napkin, he looked at Audrey and said 'tell me what is eating you, Audrey, I do not have all day' he tried to sound stern and it seemed to work because she took a deep breath and started to talk 'remember Hannah? My childhood friend.' he scratched his chin 'yea, I certainly you mentioning a certain friend about a million times what's up with her?' he was already losing interest so he switched on his computer going through his email from a Warren Buffet, wooing Festus with a restaurant business worth three million dollars. The email was so enticing that in no time he was engrossed and found himself tuning Audrey off. 'Are you even listening to me?' Audrey sounded annoyed and he gave her a winning smile 'so you will do it?'. Festus had to blink twice,' do what?'. Audrey was visibly pissed now 'my friend Hannah lost her family restaurant to the bank and she just lost her dad too. So I was wondering if you could help out and assist even if it's to raise funds or you buy it back from the bank and let her run the restaurant till she pays you back.' She held her breath while I frowned a bit, who is Hannah again? Buy a restaurant, definitely not now when Warren Buffet is offering him a similar buyout only with juicy benefits. 'Sorry, Audrey I am not interested; let's talk about my schedule for the week instead' he said with an air of finality. He knew he sounded curt but Audrey curt is the best way to get her to leave it. He wonders how Toby; her husband copes. With pouty lips and a huff, she said 'I'll go get my tablet' with which she left and slammed his door with so much vengeance he just let an indulgent smile. She always likes to have her way. Waiting for her to come back with the schedule he looked again at Warren Buffet's email and became quickly engrossed once again. Checking her digital watch, Hannah decided she had to get home late, well it was just 10 pm but her daddy always said 10 pm is late so she was hurrying home. The day had been hectic and exhausting, the bank told her the restaurant will be closed tomorrow morning and will be in the market by the end of the week. This wasn't how she planned it, she had thought she and her father were very close and they told each other anything but apparently, that wasn't the case with him she thought ruefully. Granted she has been away from home for a very long time but she and her father still talk on the phone every other day. The day he died, she still spoke with him and assured him she will be coming home for Thanksgiving with a huge surprise. The surprise was she graduated top of her class from the JTH CULINARY ACADEMY, she had so many ideas she wanted to run through her daddy. Like a more sophisticated way to make cinnamon rolls, she was even going to encourage her dad to try and start a delivery system. Even a Cooking School, one day. She thought with tears in her eyes. Her father would have loved the idea of a cooking school, having been born into a family that cooks. And ever since mum died he had poured himself even more into the restaurant. 'I wonder what dad did with the loan he took' she wondered. He wasn't someone who spends without thinking, he must have had a reason. She concluded with a deep sigh. She was home and while trying to locate her keys in her purse, her phone rang. Checking the caller ID she realized it was Audrey. 'Hannah, how are you? How was it at the bank today? Any news?' 'Not fine dear, they said I should clear all personal effects out by tomorrow' 'I'm so sorry, I wish I could hug you right now and she really could use a hug right now. 'Thank you, Audrey, I need to go now in regards to Toby'. Hanging up the phone and opening the door to the apartment she once shared with her mum and dad, She couldn't help the tears. She's all alone in the whole world, aside from Audrey and her husband she had no one to call family. She was startled awake by a strange cold sensation on her cheek. She had cried herself to sleep and the cold sensation was the tiles. She pulled herself up, staggering a little because of muscle cramps, checking her watch it was 2 am. She removed her shoes and her jacket and moved slowly towards her room, pausing in front of her dad's room she was tempted to go inside. Giving in to the temptation, she opened the door to the room and as always the room was in a pristine state. With the bed neatly made, her father could never stand a dirty room, her mother on the hand had been carefree. A literal airhead, they had complimented each other perfectly. Entering the room, she spotted the large bedside cabinet. Moving forward she opened the cabinet and a thick file dropped out. Seeing the logo of the bank, she sat down on the bed and opened the file she experienced a very great shock .
