003 : Official Encounter

Fae never asked if the rumors about him being a total rebel was true or not. What I realized after watching those two talk, is that I may have judged him way too soon.  He catered to Fae's questions with politeness and in the end, they even exchanged numbers. She’s fast. I had thought back when I saw them pulling their phones out.  I also learned that Cai's currently living with his cousin somewhere around the city.  I stop in my tracks, surprised to see a wave of students flooding the outside of our classroom. You’d think a popular celebrity had showed up. With a bewildered expression contouring my face, I lean closer to Fae while keeping my gaze on the crowd as I ask. "Are we in the right room?" Even if there happened to be a celebrity around, don't they have any shame? If they're doing that, that could mean teacher hasn't showed up yet. “What on earth are they even doing?” Fae grumbles under her breath, pushing through the sea of people to get inside. Guess not even bodies can stop her from getting inside. I’m right behind her. She’s like Moses’ staff parting the Red Sea.  Once I'm already inside, I understand why there’s a crowd outside.  Cai looks up from his phone as we approach our desks, sending us a subtle smile. Fae returns one as well. For two individuals who talked for almost an hour yesterday you’d think they’d be already eating out of each others spoon. To be honest, I've never see Fae smile so brightly before. Even with me.  We still have around ten minutes before class starts. So in the mean time, I’ll be scrolling through my news feeds.  Would you look at that? A boy group I used to stan in the past just released a new music video.  Maybe I’ll watch that later.  Little by little, the room begins to fill. The students that were once cramming outside have also started to head back to their perspective classrooms.  “Good morning class.” An echo of ‘good mornings’ later, Mrs Jonson starts today’s lesson.  Exactly five minutes into the lecture, I notice Cai and Fae exchanging secret papers. I try my best not to get curious only to fail miserably. I pretend to stretch, only to peek over her shoulder to see what’s scribbled on the piece of paper.  I see a drawing of something I can’t exactly say out loud. It's weak sketch of a body part. Although it looks like something a five year old would draw, I can still make out what it's suppose to be. Alook of disgust falls on my face. I wait for Fae’s reaction and nearly choke on my spit when I see it. She’s grinning with amusement in her eyes.  If they’re already exchanging dirty arts in the middle of class, then I guess they’ve become closer than what I originally assumed. Which makes me let out a subtle scoff. So she gets all worked up if I say anything dirty but here she is smiling if he does? Who exactly is her best friend? I lean forward on my desk, grumbling under my breath. I force myself to pay attention to the lecture rather than the two people beside me.  An hour goes by and it was time for lunch. I'm the first to storm out from the classroom. There's this drink they've started selling in the cafeteria and if you aren't fast enough, they're gone in a snap. "Kaye wait up!" Fae calls out but I barely react to her. "I'll see you in the cafeteria!" And then I'm out of there. Fae let's out a sigh as she begins to stuff her books back in her bag. When she turns around, she sees Cai's desk already empty. I make it just in time and immediately hand the staff lady my money. "I'll have five of those." She hands me back my change before giving me the drinks. Im pretty sure my heart skipped a bit there. The drinks are about half the size of my arm so in order to carry them, I have to hug them. I turn around only to bump into someone. "Sorry." I mumble under my breath, realizing one of the bottle had slipped from my arm to land on the ground. I'm about to pick that up but someone beats me to it. I look up, capturing those familiar eyes already nonchalantly looking at me. "Um.. Thanks." When I reach my hand forward to grab it, he pulls it back. "You're Kaye right?" Cai suddenly asks in a tone that's monotone. It almost feels like he already knows the answer but wants me to confirm it with my own mouth. If it means I'll get my drink back, then attend to his query. "Um.. Yeah. Kaye Quinn." It happened too fast. But I could have sworn his eyes turned darker than normal. Like he's mad. Or maybe it's just me? "Can I have it back?" That snaps him back from his stupor, and he wiggles the drink beside his head. "You mean this? I think I'll keep it." "What?" He sends me smirk. But it's not because he's amused. More rather, it feels like warning. Cai then walks away, leaving me there bewildered by what had just happened.
