The Night She Didn’t Die

I ran. I didn’t remember leaving the hall. Didn’t remember pushing past the crowd. Didn’t remember the whispers, the laughter, the pity. All I remembered… Was his voice. “I’ll kill you.” The words chased me into the forest. Cold air tore through my lungs as I ran barefoot over sharp stones and broken branches. Pain shot through my feet. But it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. Not the blood. Not the tears. Not even the bond that still burned inside my chest. Because the worst part wasn’t that he rejected me. It was that… I could still feel him. The connection. Faint—but alive. Like a thread refusing to snap. “Why…” my voice broke into the darkness. “Why won’t it disappear…” My wolf whimpered weakly inside me. Broken. Hurting. Rejected. I stumbled, collapsing against a tree. My body shook violently as the pain hit again—stronger this time. It wasn’t just emotional anymore. It was physical. Like something inside me was… changing. “No… please…” I gasped. Rejection was supposed to sever the bond. Not this. Not this burning. Not this pulling. Something was wrong. Very wrong. A low growl echoed from the shadows. My head snapped up. Eyes. Glowing. Watching me. Not one. Not two. Three. Rogues. My heart stopped. Rogue wolves were merciless. They didn’t follow pack laws. They didn’t show mercy. And right now… I was weak. Alone. Perfect prey. “Well, well…” one of them stepped forward, his voice rough and amused. “What do we have here?” “An omega,” another laughed. “And injured too.” “Easy kill.” I forced myself to stand, even as my legs trembled. “I’m warning you…” I whispered, though there was no strength behind it. They laughed. Actually laughed. “Did you hear that?” one mocked. “She’s warning us.” “Cute.” They circled me slowly. Closing in. Hunting. My wolf shrank back in fear. My body refused to respond. This was it. This was how it ends. Rejected. Alone. Killed like nothing. A tear slipped down my cheek. I closed my eyes. And for a brief second… I thought of him. Of the way he looked at me. Like I was worthless. Something inside me snapped. Not in pain. Not in fear. In anger. A deep… ancient… terrifying anger. “Don’t touch me.” The words left my lips— But they didn’t sound like mine. The air changed. The forest went still. Even the rogues paused. “…What was that?” one muttered. I opened my eyes. The world looked different. Sharper. Darker. Alive. A strange energy pulsed through my veins. Hot. Wild. Uncontrollable. “Kill her,” the leader growled suddenly. They lunged. Fast. Deadly. But— Time slowed. I could see everything. Their movements. Their claws. Their teeth. I should have been terrified. But I wasn’t. I lifted my hand— Instinctively. And something impossible happened. A force exploded from my body. Invisible. Violent. Powerful. The rogues were thrown back like they weighed nothing. Crashing into trees. Bones snapping. Silence. My breath came out in short, sharp bursts. “What… what did I just do…” I whispered. My hands trembled. Not from fear. From power. One of the rogues groaned, trying to stand. His eyes filled with terror. “Y-you’re not an omega…” he stammered. No. I wasn’t. Not anymore. A sharp pain tore through my chest again. I screamed— Dropping to my knees. The energy surged violently. Too much. Too fast. I couldn’t control it. My vision blurred. Darkness crept in. The last thing I saw— Was a shadow stepping out of the trees. Tall. Silent. Watching me. “Interesting…” a deep voice murmured. Then everything went black. to be Continued...
