The Way They Look at Her Now

779 Words
I couldn’t breathe. Lunar Sovereign. The words echoed inside my mind like something ancient had just awakened. My body trembled— Not from fear. From something deeper. Something… responding. “No…” I whispered. “That’s not possible…” But the way they were looking at me— Both of them— Said otherwise. Not with pity. Not with disgust. But with something far more dangerous. Desire. Not just physical. Power. Possession. Control. Before I could process it— My legs gave out. Darkness swallowed me whole. When I woke up… I wasn’t in the forest. I was lying on a bed again. But this time— I wasn’t alone. “Awake?” His voice. Low. Close. Too close. My eyes snapped open. And there he was. Alpha Kael Sitting beside me. Watching me. Not like before. Not with rejection. Not with disgust. But like I was something he couldn’t look away from. My heart skipped. “Why are you here…” I whispered. His gaze dropped—slowly— From my eyes… To my lips. Then back again. That small movement— It shouldn’t matter. But it did. Because it wasn’t hate. It was something far more dangerous. “I should ask you that,” he said quietly. His voice had changed. Softer. But heavier. Like every word carried restraint. I tried to sit up— But his hand moved instantly. Gripping my wrist. Firm. Warm. Possessive. My breath caught. “Don’t,” he said. Not a command. A warning. But not for me. For himself. The bond reacted immediately. Heat rushed through my body— Sharp. Sudden. Intense. I gasped softly. And his grip tightened. Just slightly. Like he felt it too. “Why…” I whispered, my voice unsteady, “why is it stronger now…” He didn’t answer. But his jaw clenched. Hard. Too hard. Because he knew. And he didn’t want to say it. “Because you stopped pretending.” The other voice entered. Calm. Controlled. Watching. The man with silver eyes stood near the doorway. Observing everything. Including the way Kael was still holding me. Including the way neither of us pulled away. “Let go of her,” he said calmly. Kael didn’t. Instead— His thumb moved. Just slightly. Brushing against my wrist. A small movement. But it sent a shock through my body. Intentional. Testing. Dangerous. “Make me,” Kael replied. Low. Challenging. My heart started racing faster. Not from fear. From tension. From being caught between them. From the way both of them were looking at me now— Not as weak. Not as nothing. But as something they wanted. For very different reasons. “You feel it now, don’t you?” the silver-eyed man said softly. “To both of them.” My breath hitched. Because— I did. Not just the bond with Kael. But something else. Something unfamiliar. Pulling me toward the other man. Not as strong. But deeper. Quieter. More… dangerous. “What did you do to me…” I whispered. He smiled slightly. “I didn’t do anything.” A pause. Then— “I just woke you up.” Kael’s grip suddenly tightened. Enough to hurt. “Careful,” he said coldly. “That’s mine.” The word sent something sharp through my chest. Mine. After rejecting me? After breaking me? Now— I’m his? Anger rose. Hot. Uncontrolled. I pulled my hand away. This time— He let me. But his eyes— They didn’t soften. They darkened. More intense. More focused. More… obsessed. “I’m not yours,” I said quietly. But my voice betrayed me. Because it shook. Not from weakness. From conflict. From something I didn’t understand yet. Kael leaned closer. Slowly. Deliberately. Close enough that I could feel his breath again. Close enough that my body reacted before my mind could stop it. “Then why,” he murmured, “does your body still respond to me?” My breath caught. Because he was right. And he knew it. And worst of all— He wanted me to know it too. “Enough.” The silver-eyed man’s voice cut through sharply. And for the first time— There was something in his tone. Not calm. Not detached. Possessive. “Step away from her,” he said. Kael didn’t move. Neither did I. Because something had already changed. Something irreversible. This wasn’t rejection anymore. This wasn’t weakness. This— Was the beginning of something far more dangerous. Because now— They didn’t see me as nothing. They saw me as something worth fighting for. And that… Was when everything truly begins to fall apart. to be Continued..
