Mia got home late after sitting in the truck for almost an hour. Her mom took one look at her stained shirt and the tired lines on her face and didn’t even ask questions. Just heated up leftovers and set them in front of her. Jake didn’t come down for dinner. Good. She ate in silence, phone face down. Another unknown number had texted her during the drive home.
