Heartbroken

Rayne was so excited. She had just gotten a promotion at work to Head Chef of BiteSize and she was over the moon. This was her dream job and she had worked for ten long years to achieve it. At thirty two she was one of the youngest in the business to ever achieve the position so quickly. She left work early to celebrate.     She stopped by the grocery store on her way home and picked up some filet mignon, shrimp, king crab, and lobster. She also grabbed some Arborio rice, Gruyere cheese, portabella mushrooms, and some white wine for risotto. She could not wait to get home and tell her fiancée Rick the good news. As she pulled up to her house, she noticed Rick's car in the driveway.  "Yes! He is still home. Maybe I can convince him to stay home today and celebrate with me," Rayne thought.      She started grabbing her keys and purse from the front seat of her car and walked up to the house. She opened the door and went in. The house was quiet but she heard rustling coming from the bedroom. Rayne happily made her way there but what she found killed her joy in an instant.      There were suitcases spread across the bed and Rick was in the closet. He came out with an armful of his clothes and froze as soon as he saw her.  "I thought you were at work," Rick said blankly without emotion. "I was," Rayne replied. "I came home to cook you a good meal tonight in celebration because I got a promotion at work. What is going on here?" "I did not want you to find out like this. I was going to call you as soon as I got settled in my new apartment. I am leaving you." "Why? We have been together for five years. We are supposed to get married in the fall. Is there another woman?" Rayne asked. "No. I have just been feeling like we have been drifting apart and I do not feel  the connection anymore like I used to. I did not know how to tell you. I thought this would be the best way," Rick said. "So now what? What about the house? Or the cars?"  "You can keep the house and your car. I will take mine and my clothes. Anything else you can sell or donate." "So that is it then?" Rayne asked as tears filled her eyes. "Yes," Rick stated.     Rayne walked out of the room and out to the car. She grabbed the bottle of wine and went back into the house and poured herself a glass. She grabbed her phone and sat down on the couch. Shortly after Rick walked out, grabbed his keys, and left. As his car started Rayne sent one text. "I need you now."
