Nathan I should have been asleep. That was the plan when I powered down my laptop after reading the email Nolan sent me. But that plan, like most good ones, fell apart the second I turned off the lights and stretched out on the guest bed. I had closed my eyes and tried not to think about anything, but that didn't work one bit. I couldn’t stop thinking. Not just about the email and what it might mean for the bench, the courts, the entire damn judicial system… but about Eleanor. I kept going back to that conversation over dinner with Grandma Franny. The way Kyle kept grinning like he knew every detail of my soul. The way Eleanor’s name slipped out of Franny’s mouth like it had always belonged there. The way my heart had stopped for a beat when she guessed the truth. I hadn’t denied it.
