Nathan I sat there in the uncomfortable chair the school had provided; a poor attempt at something professional, my legs stretched out slightly, ankle crossed over my knee, fingers drumming lazily on the armrest like I hadn’t a care in the world, like I wasn’t sitting in some ridiculous school conference room waiting for a pair of parents I was already entirely unimpressed with. I had seen men like them a thousand times before; arrogant, entitled, money-stained hands that thought cash could clean up every mess their rotten kids left behind. And maybe most days, that worked. Maybe most days, the schools bowed their heads and looked the other way, maybe most days the principal accepted a donation or a favor in exchange for silence, but that wasn't going to fly, not today.
