It was just a little past six when the knock on the front door came, followed by the low, familiar sound of Grandma Franny’s voice floating through the hallway. I was already dressed and downstairs… still a bit sluggish but grateful to feel human again. I didn't even know it was possible for a fever to break this fast. The meds the doctor gave me had kicked in fast, and the fever that had flattened me through the morning had mostly passed.
