Chapter 5

Celine stood there, watching Jace run out of her house without looking back. The silence that followed was deafening, and she felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She was angry, confused, and a little bit hurt. She didn't understand why she had acted the way she did, but she knew she had to get to the bottom of it. Dorman was still waiting in the living room, looking awkward and out of place. He glanced up as Celine walked in, his expression a mix of curiosity and concern. "Is everything okay?" he asked. Celine nodded, though she didn't feel okay at all. "Yeah, everything's fine. Jace just... had to go." Dorman raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced but not wanting to press the issue. "Alright, if you say so. I'll head out too, then. Tell Jace to hit me up when he's free." Celine nodded again, watching as Dorman left. The house felt emptier than ever, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed. She went back to her room and sat on her bed, trying to make sense of her thoughts. She replayed the events of the evening in her mind, from Tate's unexpected confession to Jace's sudden appearance and the strange encounter with Dorman. Everything felt like a blur, and she couldn't pinpoint where things had gone wrong. As she lay back on her bed, staring at the ceiling, she realized that she needed to talk to someone. Maybe her mom, when she got back, or perhaps a friend who could offer some perspective. She couldn't keep bottling up her feelings and pretending everything was fine. For now, though, she decided to try and get some sleep. Tomorrow was another day, and maybe things would make more sense in the morning. With a deep sigh, she closed her eyes and tried to push the evening's events out of her mind.
