Chapter 4: Mia's Struggle In The Office

"Cut the crap Fred" Reynolds said

"But I just saw you smile and you haven't done that in forever" Fred said

" I just told you I didn't" Reynolds retorted

" Does it mean you like the new secretary alre...ady" Fred words hanged in his mouth as he had to dodge the paper scissors Reynolds threw at him

"What the hell!" Fred said out of fright, with his heart panting out loud

"I don't like repeating myself" Reynolds told Fred coldly

"I'll see you later", Fred said and hurried out of Reynolds office to save his head

Mia looked around in her beautiful office

She sat and stared at the computer in front of her knowing fully well that she couldn't operate it. Next, her eyes fell on the numerous documents piled up

"Where do I start from?" Mia asked herself

Then she remembered her brother Lucas

"I wonder how you're fairing Lucas", she muttered loudly

"I have no idea where you are, or if you are well", Mia said as a tear dropped from her eyes

Reynolds couldn't take his eyes off Mia through the glass separating their both offices

"Miss Mia, is that how you work while staring?" Reynolds asked as he entered into her office

"I'm sorry sir", Mia said as she hurriedly stood up and bowed a little before Reynolds

"I need the file from October 2020", Reynolds commanded

"Sir.. I.." Mia stammered as she played with her fingers wondering how on earth she would find it

"You're incompetent and I'm sure it wouldn't be long before you get fired", Reynolds said to Mia

"My apologies sir, I would bring it to your office sir", Mia pleaded as Reynolds left her office

As soon as he left, Mia hurriedly and carefully began searching for the file as she wouldn't want to offend her boss on her first day at work

She has been searching for 2 hours in futility

"Finally found it" Mia said as she heaved a sigh of relief and hastily ran out her office to Reynolds office

"Here sir", she said as she entered into his office

"Watch it, can't you knock?" Reynolds asked her coldly

It was then it dawned on her that she didn't knock

"I apologize sir", Mia said trying to drop the file on Reynolds table

"I'll take my leave now sir", Mia said

"I don't need it anymore", Reynolds said as Mia was about leaving

"What sir?" Mia asked

"The file" Reynolds responded,

"Take it away and get lost with it", Reynolds added

"Did you have to make me suffer this much only to reject it at the end", Mia said under her breath

"Excuse me..", Reynolds said to get her speak out loud

"I'll be leaving now sir", Mia said and dashed out of this office

Reynolds glimpsed at the figure leaving his office and he mumbled, "What a world full of wonders!"

" It's 5 pm already, Mia said as she yawned and her stomach grumped almost synonymously, as she hadn't eaten anything all day

It's about time I closed for the day, Mia said to herself, as she had been sorting out those files all day

"I'm closing for the day sir", Mia said as she entered into Reynold's office

"And what does that mean?", Reynolds asked Mia

"It's about time for me to clock out from work", Mia replied Reynolds

"You're working overtime today", Reynolds said without taking his eyes off his laptop, almost in the same breath

"Sirrr!!", Mia said forming her puppy eyes and with utmost displeasure

"You heard me", Reynolds said coldy to Mia

"I need all those files sorted and arranged by today, you close work after your done with it", Reynolds added without taking a look at Mia

Mia had no choice but to leave his office to continue her work

"When will I finish all these?", Mia asked herself as she entered into her office looking at the heap of files she still had to sort and arrange

"Miss Mia" Fred called as he entered into Mia's office

Isn't it about time you closed for the day?" Fred enquired

"I know right", Mia said to Fred

"But Reynolds Donovan insisted I work overtime or rather I work till I sort all these files" Mia added

"What!!" Fred exclaimed as he stared at the heaps of files Mia still had to sort

"I'll be fine", Mia assured Fred and they bade each other farewell

"Now I'm in deep sh!t", Mia said after a long stare

"Isn't it enough trouble that Damien is holding my brother Lucas hostile and I'm working for him, why should Reynolds add to my pain?", Mia thought out loud

With different thoughts racing through her mind while working. Mia gazed at the wall clock ticking and discovered it was past 7pm already.

Mia stepped out of her office looking through the hallway without seeing anyone, she became terrified

Mia returned into her office

While in deep thoughts, Mia was brought back to reality by the hoarse voice of Reynolds

"Is this how you get work done?" Asked Reynolds as he threw some files which would take about 2 hours to sort and arrange

Mia who was sick and tired of this wanted to speak but found herself quiet

It could have been the hunger or tiredness, she didn't seem to understand

With Indolence, Mia took the files and Inspired herself to work and leave his company before 9pm..
