Walker and Stevens stood outside the residence, slowly taking in the flurry of activity from the police officers, technicians and forensic specialists. Each police officer they observed operated within a routine. One carried boxes. A large woman carried bags. A slender, balding man carried a flashlight and barked orders to those around him. A rotund woman struggled with a heavy bag as she managed to bring it up the three stairs of the porch. A plainclothes detective stood at the entrance of the door, armed with a clipboard.
