The sound of Altina’s phone ringing startled her out of her frozen shock as the newscast changed to the weather. “Altina Eahban speaking,” she answered without even looking.
“Altina, have you seen the news?” Mr. Joren asked without even saying hello.
“Just now.” When the newscast started, Altina had sent Maison and Mrs. Tilly out of the room as she watched in shock at the lies Cain spoke. She jumped when the doorbell rang. “Hold on a second. Someone is at the door.”
Altina was surprised to find a uniformed officer when she answered the door. “What can I help you with, officer?” she said, turning the speakerphone on so her boss could listen.
