Zachary Lawson's Pov. I chose to go out of her room instead of talking to her. I can't show her that I am affected. I immediately headed to my office, luckily I am free this afternoon, so I can go home early. "Damn." Tears started to fall on my cheeks. Why do I feel this? I grabbed my phone and called Steven. "Yow-" "Meet me in the Citrus." "Woo, what happened? What pushes you to go to a club today?" "None of your business." "Isn't it too early, I thought you still had work?" "Nah. Meet me there." "Got it." I ended the call. I stand up to fix my things and walk outside, but before I can leave the hospital, I stop in front of her room and leave. I drove my car as fast as I could. There he is, waiting for me. "What's up?" "Let's have a drink inside." We sat at one of the round tables and ordered drinks. I really need this. I continue drinking when Steven says "So, aren't you going to tell me?" Tss. “Tell me or you will tell me?” “Are you kidding me?” “No, I am not.” Steven Clein’s Pov. “f**k! I don’t know what’s happening to me. I love her, but I know I shouldn't, that's why I am distancing myself.” This is the first time I saw him being like this. He is my childhood friend and until now we are friends. “Why? Everything has a reason to love someone. There’s no rule when we want to love. It’s just you that insists on impossible things.” “No, you don’t understand, Stev. I tried my best, but she kept pushing me.” “Maybe she’s just-” “Just what? Just tired, sick, name it? If you know how much I understand her.” “Love isn’t measured in understanding, Zack. You are smart enough to find it out.” He grabs a bottle of vodka and drinks it like a thirsty man. “What else could I do when she doesn't want me to be there?” “What else could you do? All you have to do is to ask yourself if you really love her, because love is different from sympathy. I know you care a lot about her because of her condition, but that’s not love.” s**t! Is he crying? “Don’t cry. Your tears won’t change anything.” “What should I do then?” “Talk to her. Tell her the truth. Don’t be afraid, Zack. You’ve been living in fear, and it’s not helping you.” “What if she won’t listen to me anymore, after how I treated her these past few weeks?” “Here you go again with your what if’s. Tomorrow try to approach her nicely and tell me what will happen, okay? I need to know about it also, ‘cause you know.” I winked. I saw him smiling. Tss. We continued drinking until he decided to go home. Zachary Lawson's Pov. I woke up with a headache. Am I late? I checked for the time. s**t! I’m late now. I still need to give her medicine. I immediately got up from my bed and went straight to my bathroom to take a warm shower. I drove my car as fast as I could. Hayst. Finally! I went straight to my office to put my things and get her medicine. When I was about to go to her room, my phone rang. Steven’s calling. “What?” I ask annoyingly. “Woo, calm down. You can do it. Go now and try to talk to her.” “Okay.” I hesitated to walk for a moment. “Tss, don’t hesitate now.” “How did you know?” He ended the call. How did he know? I turned my head to look for every corner of the hospital to see him, but he was nowhere. I knocked on her door. “Come in.” I hesitated at first to come in and let out a sigh before opening her door. “Good morning, Cass.” I saw confusion in her eyes. “Good morning, doc.” I walked toward her and handed her medicine. “Please drink.” I watch her getting her medicine and drink it. “Ahm, Zack.” “Yes?” “I just want to apologize.” “No, no. I must be the one to apologize. Sorry, Cass.” There was still confusion in her eyes, but she tries to smile. “Is it true?” “ What?” “That you love me?” I asked. I saw her face blushing. Cute.
