Rheya rolled her eyes. “Okay, stop pulling my leg. What’s actually going on?”
Lia shook her head. “Sorry, Rhey, we’re telling the truth.”
Rheya stared at the trio seriously. Were they on drugs? Was all the security and secrecy because they’re actually running a high-end drug trafficking ring?
The woman coughed awkwardly. “I’ll go get us some tea,” she said, pulling the man beside her into the kitchen.
“You just risked my life in a motorcycle chase, and now you’re trying to tell me you’re a dog? Is this some kind of cruel joke? I can’t even get back home if I wanted to. Who was that guy following us? Are you running from the police?”
Lia sighed and looked Rheya in the eyes. “Do you trust me?”
“Well, you managed to not kill me, so I guess I must,” she grumbled, exasperated.
“Okay, then outside we go,” she said, picking Rheya up bridal style. She let out a squeak of protest, surprised that Lia could even carry her like this. She took her out a patio door and sat her down on a swinging bench. Rheya gasped, realising she could see wolves scattered throughout the lawn. One or two of them walked up to Lia, and Rheya tucked her legs up onto the bench, afraid they would attack. Instead, they stopped in front of Lia and dropped their heads, their snouts almost touching the ground. Lia grabbed a pair of pants off the patio.
“Jesus, Lia, what if they have rabies?”
One of the wolves growled lowly, but Lia put up her hand.
“Okay, Danny, shift for me,” she said. Rheya watched silently, as the wolf sat back and started transforming. It only took a couple of seconds before a man was sitting in the spot where the wolf once was. Naturally, he was completely naked. She averted her eyes while Lia handed the boy his pants. Once he was partially clothed, she went back to gaping, glancing between the two people in front of her.
“Danny, meet Rheya, my mate. Rheya, meet Danny, my little brother.” Danny stuck his hand out in greeting, but Rheya couldn’t move. Her brain might have shut down from overload.
“Well, isn’t she a charmer,” he smirked at Lia.
“Well f**k me sideways,” Rheya managed to cough out. “Werewolves are real…?”
Lia sighed and sat down beside Rheya, and the two strangers from earlier came out the door carrying trays of drinks and a fruit platter.
“This is May, my mom, and Paul, my dad,” Lia said. They both smiled at her.
“I, uh,” She stuttered. “You’re her parents? You look so young.”
They both chuckled at her lack of a filter. “ We’re both 44, actually; It’s the werewolf genes. We age normally until we’re 18, at which point our healing abilities keep us looking youthful,” May explained, squeezing Paul’s arm.
Rheya shook her head and looked back at Lia. “Werewolves are real?”
Lia nodded. “Really real. Welcome to Clan Oslo.”
Once Rheya had calmed down a bit, they went back inside, and were sitting in the living room. Lia spent the next hour answering her questions.
“So werewolves can shift after they hit puberty, and when they turn 18, they can find their fated mates?” She asked.
“Yep,” Lia nodded.
“And what’s a fated mate? Like how do you know?”
“Well, when you first meet them, and your eyes lock, that’s the only thing you can focus on. Their eyes, their scent, everything about them drives you crazy. And all you want to do is grab them and make them yours.”
“Oh,” Rheya nodded. Then a worried look crossed her face. “Have you found your fated mate yet…?”
Lia giggled. “Sunshine, you’re my fated mate.”
Rheya’s face turned beet red. “Oh… What do I smell like?”
Lia could smell it from across the room, but she leaned in and kissed along Rheya’s neck, teasing her. “Mm… You smell like lavender.”
She shivered at the trail of electric kisses left on her neck, laughing before pushing Lia back and kissing her on the lips. “Can you turn me into a werewolf? Or is that only a vampire thing?”
“Normally humans wouldn’t be able to turn. Because you’re my mate, I can turn you by mating with you and marking you,” Lia’s eyes darkened a shade as she moved Rheya’s hair over her shoulder, her finger circling the spot on her neck where a mark normally goes. “Because the Moon Goddess chose you for me, she also gave you a wolf. She just hasn’t awoken yet.”
“Interesting…” Rheya tilted her head. “I had this dream the other night… I was staring into a mirror and a wolf was staring back.”
“Huh,” Lia frowned. “Are you sure it’s not just a coincidence?”
“No, it was strange. It was more like a vision, she spoke to me, but didn’t move her mouth. Do you think she was trying to get me to awaken her?”
“That sounds like our wolves. Maybe we should mark you and see if your wolf can answer you,” She smirked, pulling Rheya onto her lap so she was straddling her. Rheya blushed and covered her face with her hands, so she grabbed them and placed kisses on them, before pulling her down and kissing her deeply on the lips. Her hands wandered up Rheya’s arms and circled around to her hips, making her mate shiver in delight. She almost let out a groan when Rheya backed up, her everything was intoxicating, she just wanted to drown in the feeling.
“As much as I absolutely love the sexy, badass werewolf thing,” Rheya interrupted their moment. “I have another question that direly needs answering.”
Lia frowned, nodding slightly.
“What was up with the guy following us? Why was he trying to kill us?”
“Well, the man who was chasing us was a werewolf from our rivals, Clan Tempête,” she explained. “We’re currently in high tensions, as our borders cross near Gatineau. Chances are, they wanted to use me as leverage against our clan. But they failed, and now we know they’re hostile. My parents are likely discussing what they should do about the threat as we speak.”
Rheya pouted. “I don’t like the idea of them k********g you,” she said. “I want you safe and sound.”
Lia smiled and kissed her tenderly. “I’m home and with the sweetest mate I could ever ask for,” she answered. “Nothing could hurt me.”
She then stood up, cupping Rheya’s ass in her hands. Rheya linked her arms behind Lia’s neck, breathing in Lia’s cinnamon scent. She started kissing Lia’s neck, making her girlfriend growl as she brought them upstairs. They made it to her bedroom and into the en-suite bathroom, where Lia set her down on the vanity.
“Why are we in the bathroom?”
“Well, I think I scared you when we had our motorcycle chase. All I can smell is nervous sweat,” Lia grinned.
“Oh! I’m sorry,” Rheya blushed, folding her arms against herself.
“Don’t be, Sunshine,” Lia kissed her again before backing away. “I’m just going to grab you a towel and a change of clothes. Give me a minute.”
Rheya watched her leave the room before hopping off the counter, looking around at the decorative bath. There was a big, modernized claw foot tub with jacuzzi jets, equipped with a rain head shower and a small shower head. The gold accents and marble vanity made her feel like she was in a fancy hotel room. She turned around as Lia came back and placed the items on the counter.
“Will you be joining me?” Rheya asked shyly.
“If I were to join you,” Lia wrapped her arms around Rheya’s waist and kissed down her neck. “I would have no self control. I would have your body wrapped around mine in a heartbeat. And as tempting as that is, I don’t think we’re quite ready for that yet.” She lightly bit down on Rheya’s neck, making her moan, then let go and shut the door.
Rheya was left feeling needy and un-satisfied, but she really did need a shower. She hopped in and soaped up, enjoying the fancy shower settings, then got out and dried off. She slipped on the clothes Lia had lent her. There was a big, oversized t-shirt that smelled like her, and a pair of soft shorts.
She exited the room and was met with Lia’s heated stare, her eyes flashing black. Rheya gasped. “Your eyes..?”
“I like you in our clothes,” Lia responded, her voice sounding deeper and raspier. “My wolf likes it too. That’s why my eyes changed.”
She nodded in understanding, secretly wondering what her wolf looked like. She joined Lia on her bed and they cuddled, talking more about werewolves, until Rheya drifted off to sleep.
