She was going to ignore him. Is that it? Triam stared at the window until, feeling like he was going crazy inside. He tried to force himself to leave, but he couldn’t. He had to know what happened. The face of his human mate, bloody and still filtered into his mind. He touched his chest as his heart started to ache. It hurt so much. He coughed, gasping for air. He didn’t even know her name and had never met her, but he was hurting so much. He never knew meeting and losing his mate would hurt like this. He felt like he was dying. Triam slammed a first against his chest, feeling the ache deep inside. Fallen turned off the lights. Was she going to shut him out just like that? That seemed to make him extremely mad. He couldn’t seem to let it go. He leapt up into the air, and easily landed on her window seal. He pushed the window open and dropped into the room. It was the first time he’d ever been in her room or spoken more than two sentences to her. This night was full of strange things, Triam thought as he looked around the room. It looked like a cool room – a desk with books on it sat in one corner, a clothing rack sat next to it, with a number of her signature black dresses hanging on it. She was into the goth style. Triam had always thought she looked a little weird – they were supernatural beings, she didn’t need to advertise that with her clothes. He turned to the bed, just as her gasp filled the room as he turned to her bed. “What are you doing in here?” she whispered hoarsely, staring at the door of her bathroom. “You can’t be in here, Triam. Go home.” He shook his head, advancing on her. “I told you we needed to talk. And you ignored me.” “I didn’t ignore you. There’s nothing to talk about. I told you I didn’t do anything to the human girl. I tried to help her, but she died.” Triam stepped close to her, the spirits’ words still echoed in his mind, driving him crazy. He couldn’t help but think that she had killed her. His fangs sharpened, responding to his anger. His wolf growled deep inside him. He was going to snap, and it wasn’t going to be pretty. “Tell me the truth, I know what you are,” he said, stopping a few inches from her. His body buzzed with a weird energy that made him feel a little dangerous, like he was going to hurt her if she didn’t say what he wanted to hear. She flinched, her eyes going wide. “You do? What am I?” she asked. But Triam wasn’t interested in that. He reached for her. His hand closed around her slim throat. His hand looked dark and big against her pale throat. Triam stared at it fascinated. His thumb rolled over her skin, feeling the texture, the softeness. He frowned as he kept doing it. Rubbing his thumb over her skin, slow and steady. His plan of choking her to death, until she told him whether she stole his mate’s soul or not, was forgotten. Her warm breath hit the back of his hand in rapid succession as her pulse spiked. He could feel her carotid vein pumping blood. Triam stepped closer, pulled in by the cadence of her heartbeat. It was hypnotic. His fangs ached in his mouth. He wanted to bite her. Triam paused. What the f**k was he doing? He frowned at his loose hand around her neck. Anger and hurt swirled inside him. He was behaving in a strange way. He didn’t even recognize himself. But he had to know. Triam applied a little pressure. He wasn’t going to hurt her, he only wanted to scare her. She wouldn’t tell him anything otherwise. She was going to feign ignorance. Fallen caught. “What are you doing?” she moaned out. “Tell me what happened,” he said. Fallen shook her head. She struggled against him. Her sharp black claws dug into his hand. Triam barely felt a thing. She stared at him as if she couldn’t believe he was doing thing. “I won’t hurt you if you tell me the truth.” She whimpered, and then her eyes rolled to the back of her head. She went limp. Triam caught her. His heart hammered in his chest as he held her close. What the hell just happened? He asked himself as he stared down at her. Her black hair covered half her pale, she looked a little deathly - as if he’d killed her. Fuck. He didn’t mean to hurt her. Triam picked her up and walked to the bed, but she made a whimpering sound. He stopped and stared down at her. She clutched her head and moaned soundly. For a second he thought she was going to flip out on him, but she looked up and he found blue eyes staring up at him. Triam froze, confused because Fallen’s eyes were strange. They were a mix of purple and gray. And they always unsettled him whenever he looked at her. Triam gasped as he realized right then that he was not staring at Fallen, but…could this be her? His mate’s soul. “What is your name?” he asked. “Jesse,” she said. She frowned at the sound of her voice. “What?” She touched her throat. She was in a strange body and staring up at a strange male. She was going to freak out. “Don’t panic. I can explain,” he said, even though he didn’t know what happened. He didn’t know how she ended up in Fallen’s body. Triam didn’t much care. His mate was alive – well technically. He leaned down, drawn in by the depth of her blue in her eyes. Triam shivered, feeling weird and elated at the same time. He was staring at Fallen but at the same time, he was not. She has my mate's soul inside her.
