I knew it would cost something. I prepared for that. I told myself on the walk to the amphitheater and during the ceremony's first phase and in the specific ten seconds between watching Arwen step into the circle and seeing the stones respond to her presence that the rejection would hurt in a way I was choosing and that choosing the hurt was the point.
I was not fully prepared for the specific way it hurts.
