Chapter 13:
The gunshot echoed through the prison.
For a split second…
No one moved.
Then chaos erupted.
Emergency alarms screamed through the corridors as red lights began flashing.
“Lock the facility down!”
“Everyone get back!”
Guards rushed in every direction.
Emily’s heart pounded wildly.
“Zach!”
She reached for him through the glass partition separating the visitation room.
A prison officer grabbed her arm.
“Miss, you need to come with us!”
“No!” she cried. “He’s in there!”
Another gunshot rang out somewhere deeper inside the prison.
BANG!
The lights flickered once…
Then went completely dark.

Zach instinctively dropped to the floor.
Years of business negotiations hadn’t prepared him for this.
But instinct had.
