Chapter 7:
The sound of the gunshot still echoed in Emily’s ears.
Hospital security officers surrounded Zach’s car while police lights painted the snowy parking lot in flashes of blue and red.
“Miss Adams, are you injured?” one officer asked.
Emily shook her head, still trembling.
“I’m… I’m okay.”
The officer turned to Zach.
“And you, sir?”
“It’s just a scratch.”
A paramedic gently cleaned the cut on Zach’s forehead.
“It could’ve been much worse.”
