HUSH. Episode 25

The sprawling mansion was unusually quiet. The silence lasted only until Ramos stepped into the grand foyer. His polished shoes echoed against the marble floor as several servants immediately lowered their heads. He removed his leather gloves with practiced ease before glancing toward the staircase. “Where’s Bianca?” No one answered. Ramos stopped walking. His sharp gaze swept across the room. “I asked a question.” The head butler nervously stepped forward. “Sir… Miss Bianca left the mansion this morning.” “She hasn’t returned.” Ramos frowned. “Did she say where she was going?” “No, sir.” A dangerous silence followed. Ramos slowly turned toward one of his bodyguards. “Call her.” The man immediately dialed Bianca’s number. A few seconds later… He lowered the phone. “It says the number is switched off, sir.” Ramos’s expression darkened. “Again.” The guard obeyed. The result was the same. “Still unreachable.” Ramos’s jaw tightened. “Track her phone.” Another guard hurried away with his tablet. Within moments, he returned. “Her last known location was the airport.” “The signal disappeared shortly afterward.” “The airport?” Ramos repeated the words quietly. His eyes narrowed. “So…” “She intended to leave.” The realization settled over the room like a heavy fog. One of his trusted men cautiously spoke. “Sir…” “Should we assume she’s running?” Ramos remained silent. Then… A cold laugh escaped his lips. “So.” “She finally grew afraid.” He walked toward the massive window overlooking the estate. “I warned her long ago.” “I despise betrayal.” His reflection stared back at him from the glass. “If she chose to run…” “…then she knows something.” He slowly turned around. “Seal every route out of the city.” His men straightened immediately. “Yes, sir.” “Contact our people at every airport, private airstrip, seaport, and highway checkpoint.” “I want to know if Bianca boarded a flight.” “If she used another identity.” “If anyone helped her.” He paused, his voice dropping to an icy calm. “And if she didn’t leave…” “…find out who stopped her.” The room fell silent. That last sentence unsettled even his most loyal men. Because they all knew what it implied. Someone had interfered. Someone had taken Bianca before she could disappear. Ramos looked toward the head of security. “Who has the courage to touch someone under my protection?” No one answered. The head of security lowered his gaze. “We’ll find out, sir.” “You’d better.” Ramos walked past them, his expression unreadable. “Because if another player has entered my game…” His lips curved into a chilling smile. “…I intend to learn their name.” As his men hurried to carry out his orders, Ramos stood alone in the center of the mansion. For the first time in a long while… He had the unmistakable feeling that someone was making moves against him from the shadows. And he hated not knowing who. The Financial Crimes Division was quiet except for the steady tapping of computer keyboards. Stacks of documents covered the large conference table where the investigative team had gathered once again. Senior Investigator Cole placed a thick folder in the center. “We’ve finished tracing Natalie’s finances.” The room immediately fell silent. Investigator Harris opened the folder, his eyes scanning the pages. “Her official income as an actress doesn’t match her lifestyle.” Another investigator nodded. “We compared her acting contracts, endorsement deals, tax filings, and declared assets.” “There are… significant discrepancies.” Cole flipped to another page. “On paper, Natalie earned well.” “But not well enough to justify the penthouse, luxury vacations, designer jewelry, luxury vehicles, and private security she occasionally hired.” A younger investigator leaned forward. “So where did the rest of the money come from?” Cole slid several bank statements across the table. “There.” Everyone studied the highlighted entries. Large deposits. Millions at a time. Each transfer arrived from a different corporate account. Yet every account shared one thing in common. Anonymous ownership. One investigator frowned. “Shell companies.” Cole nodded. “Most of them.” “They exist on paper.” “No obvious business activity.” “No identifiable owners.” “No direct link to Natalie.” “But somehow…” “They kept sending her money.” Harris looked up. “Can we identify who controls them?” “Not yet.” “The ownership is buried beneath layers of holding companies and offshore registrations.” Another investigator let out a slow breath. “Someone worked very hard to hide their identity.” Cole crossed his arms. “This wasn’t random.” “These transactions were carefully structured.” “They were spread across different companies.” “Different dates.” “Different amounts.” “They avoided attracting automatic financial scrutiny.” The room grew thoughtful. One investigator spoke carefully. “So whoever funded Natalie had access to sophisticated financial planning.” “Or professionals who knew how to conceal money.” Cole nodded. “Exactly.” Harris flipped another page. “What’s even more interesting…” “The payments continued for years.” “They weren’t one-time gifts.” “They were consistent.” “Almost like…” He paused. “A long-term arrangement.” Silence settled over the room. The younger investigator finally broke it. “This strengthens the possibility that Natalie had wealthy patrons.” Cole raised a finger. “It supports that possibility.” “But we still don’t know the nature of those relationships.” “We’re not drawing conclusions before the evidence does.” He walked to the whiteboard and wrote two words in bold letters. FOLLOW THE MONEY Turning back to the team, he continued, “People lie.” “Bank records rarely do.” “Our next priority is identifying who truly controlled these shell companies.” “If we uncover that…” “…we may uncover the people who knew Natalie better than anyone else.” The investigators exchanged determined looks. For the first time since the investigation began, they had found something tangible. Not rumors. Not speculation. But a financial trail leading into the shadows—one carefully hidden by whoever had been paying Natalie millions over the years. The evening had settled peacefully over Harmony Town. Crickets chirped in the distance as a cool breeze drifted through the open windows of the cottage. Dinner had long since ended. The old lady was inside knitting by the fireplace, while Rebecca washed the dishes despite Damian insisting he would do them. “You cooked,” she had told him with a smile. “The least I can do is help.” Damian hadn’t argued. Instead, he stepped onto the veranda, a mug of coffee in one hand. For the first time in months… His mind was quiet. No board meetings. No family politics. No rivals. Just the peaceful sounds of the countryside. Then— His phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen. Ethan. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “So…” He answered the call. “Tell me.” Ethan’s calm voice came through the speaker. “Bianca is in our custody.” Damian’s expression remained composed, but his eyes sharpened. “Was there any resistance?” “Very little. She was trying to leave the city through the airport.” “I assumed as much.” Ethan continued, “Ramos has already discovered she’s missing.” Damian let out a quiet chuckle. “I expected nothing less.” “Our people inside his organization confirmed he’s furious.” “He has sealed every possible exit and ordered a citywide search.” Damian leaned casually against the veranda railing. “Good.” There was a brief pause. “Good?” Ethan repeated. “Yes.” “The more desperate Ramos becomes…” “…the more mistakes he’ll make.” A knowing smile crossed Damian’s face. “For years he’s hidden behind careful planning.” “Pressure changes people.” “It exposes weaknesses.” Ethan nodded on the other end. “Bianca is asking to speak with you personally.” “She claims she has information.” “I’m sure she does.” Damian’s voice remained even. “But don’t rush her.” “Fear makes people talk.” “Hope makes them tell the truth.” “Treat her well.” “No threats.” “No unnecessary force.” “If she believes we’re her safest option…” “…she’ll tell us everything willingly.” “I understand.” Ethan hesitated before speaking again. “There’s one more thing.” “Our contacts say Ramos suspects someone powerful is moving against him.” Damian looked toward the dark sky. “He should.” “But he still doesn’t know who.” “No.” “And I’d like to keep it that way.” Damian took a slow sip of his coffee. “The longer he searches in the wrong direction…” “…the closer we get to ending this.” “I’ll continue as planned,” Ethan said. “You have your instructions.” The call ended. Damian slipped the phone back into his pocket. His gaze drifted toward the kitchen window. Rebecca stood inside, laughing as the old lady playfully scolded her for trying to wash every dish by herself. A warmth settled over him. This little cottage had become a place of peace. A place untouched by the darkness of the world he had left behind. But he knew it wouldn’t stay that way forever. Soon… He would have to return to that world. And when he did, his confrontation with Ramos would no longer be fought from the shadows. It would be the beginning of the end.
