The amusement park, Ledon City, is the largest most built up and also the most visited recreation centre in the city. Due to the variety of recreational equipments at the amusement park, it had become quite popular with the residents of abuja. So the Okay family had decided to join the numerous families trouping to the park to have a fun time.
Mr Johnson Okah and driven his family to Ledon City in his new Toyota Highlander jeep. The journey from their house at gwa gwa district to the park, a distance of not more than twenty eight kilometers had taken 2 hours. When they arrived at the park, it was 7:23 PM.
They set about for the night fun. Miriam and her siblings went for horse riding; Live horse. It was their first time of riding a real horse, and were only allowed to do so at the close supervision of their parents . The 3 siblings were thrilled as they galloped on the horses to and from.
Miriam's horse was a strong white horse. She had always yearned to ride a white horse. To her, they were a rare gem. So on that night that she finally had her first horse ride and on top of her dream horse, she was very exhilarated.
After about forty minutes of horse riding, the family of five booked their tickets into the Ledon cinema; Cinema inside the amusement park, to see the movie. "Thing to compromise. They sat the row of seats, each with their own coconut rice on their laps, gobbling down on it as they watch the movie. Twenty minutes into the film, Miriam excused herself to go and urinate.
Minutes later as she strolled back to where the family was seated, with the blue lace gown she wore gently flowing behind her in a soothing motion. From the row of seats before the one her family were occupying, a red balloon bounced out from the side of seats and rolled towards her. The owner of the balloon, a cheerful and exuberant toddler trudged after his balloon, obviously trying to catch it. But his tiny feet was no match for the weightless balloon which was also being aided by the cool night breeze.
Miriam had laughed loudly as she stopped the balloon with her leg and picked it up with both hands. She gently handed it to the little boy who was looking up at her, his face all smiles. She rubbed her fingers on his cheeks, brought her face towards his and said in a funny voice " Big, big boy"
The way she said elicited a loud giggle from the boy. Miriam turned and continued walking to her seat. She has not taken more than 7 steps when a explosion boomed behind her, freaking her out greatly. She blindly crouched for safety, turned and saw that the boy was no longer there. At the exact position where the boy stood before, were mutilated tiny body parts.
The balloon had blown the boy to pieces!!.
A loud shrieking wail escaped her mouth just as everyone regained their composure and began running around in utmost panic. The place was total chaos.
In the midst of all that, none of the people knew in the park knew that the explosion was the beginning of what was to happen that night. It would be a very bad long long night. None of them knew or expected that, except for the three bearded men who were positioned in three strategic places around the amusement park. Miriam's parents and her siblings dashed towards her. Her mom was mystified. Mr Johnson quickly stood Miriam on her feet and they began running out of the cinema amidst the sea of other fleeing bodies.
Just as they made it out of the cinema's door, bursts of g*n fires rang out through the night. Tracer fires whizzed all around, seeming to be coming from everywhere. All concentrating on the people coming out from the cinema. Loud deafening wails and screams erupted in the park as bullets ripped through people. The attackers kept on at it. They concentrated all their efforts at the people running in all directions, trying to get out of the line of fire, mowing them down one after the other.
15 minutes after the first shot rang out, one of the attackers, a sturdy man dressed in blue coveralls climbed down from the top of a satellite mast he had perched on. The other two crouching behind a mango tree at the far east side of the cinema building, also crept out from their hiding place. And just like that, they were gone. Vanished without a trace. But not before leaving a irreparable and tremendous damage behind them. Nothing of them was left behind, except for the c*****e they left in their wake.
Anguishing cries, agonizing wails, pained shrieks, loud groans, mournfully dialogues were echoing throughout Le don amusement park. Dozens of bodies littered the park. Most were already dead, why dozens lay, bleeding to death.
Miriam slumped down beside the bodies of four of her own, wailing and screaming on top of her lungs. Her mom, dad, brother and sister were all riddled with bullets. They lay on the hard floor, in the pool of their own blood, stone dead.
Miriam was lucky to still be breathing, she had missed death just by the cross hairs. She had been running out of the cinema just directly behind her dad when the bursts of gunshots exploded. Had she been a few centimeters to either side of him, she would have been gotten too. Her dad's body has taken most of the bullets that would have, should have killed her. Only one bullet managed to graze through her left hand, leaving a hot painful black smear.
But the intense pain she was feeling in her heart overrode her system's sense to feel pain. Her overwhelming pain at the loss of her family, number the physical pain she was feeling on her left hand.
She just wished that somehow, that the assailants would come back for a second assault, and finish her off too.
She just couldn't fathom how she would continue to live in this world alone , she just don't see herself grinding it on this wicked world alone..
The only people dear to are no more.
With the thoughts, Miriam was now more than hysterical. Her rate was out of this world, with her heart threatening to burst out of her chest at any moment. She was gurgling, as if choking on something.
It wasn't a good sight for any onlookers at all
