"We are looking for workers". Continued the man. Miriam threw him a cursory glance. " What does that have to with me?". The stranger's face morphed from blank to serious. " You met up to most of our criterias". He said as he ran scrutinizing gaze up and down her body. The man's predatory looked ticked off alarm bells in Miriam's head. His piercing gaze seems to be seeing through her. The look had suddenly made her want to cover herself with multiple cloths. "I never said that I wanted any job". She said, the words coming out defensivly. "No you didn't, but we knew that with proper training you would be able to do this job that I am talking about. We also knew you will like it". He said shutting his lips into a thin tight line. "Seems like you are suffering a overgeneralization abd assumption disease". Said Miriam sternly. "I never knew that there is such a disease. But if there is , no, I am not suffering from such". "Then stop telling me what I would like and what you thought I wanted". Said Miriam, her tone rising up a note. " For your information I don't need any job, and I don't think met the criteria of whatever type of workers you are looking for to do whichever job it is. Just because you know a few facts about me , you now think you know whatever I am thinking ". She spouted, turned and started walking away. "It is a job that would make your parents proud ". Called out the stranger again. This time Miriam's attention was completely hooked. She turned for the umpteenth time and glared at the man inquisitively. By now her friends had noticed the interruption and began walking towards her and the man. "Is he roasting you?" asked jola when she got a few meters from the two. Miriam just threw the basketball to her. " You guys should go and keep on playing". She said. " I'll be joining you guys later on when finish". She had said, giving the girls a reassuring look. She turned as they began walking off, then turned fully towards the bald man, who also seemed to be staring after the departing girls, obviously waiting for them to be out of earshot. "How did you know my parents and what happened to them?". Asked Miriam, and then realized how dumb she must have sounded. Off course someone who knew her name, age and where she schooled at, ought to know that too. " Like you said earlier that I know most facts about you. That's true, I do know quite some facts about you, that's how I know". "What are you even talking about?". She asked, the skin on her forehead drawn together, forming deep tight lines. The man stared at her grimly and shook his head slowly. " I won't tell you now, but what I would tell you now is that it is a job that will make your parents proud. "There you go again with your assumptions". She said, the exasperation evident in her voice. " There you go again with it, I hate it. How do you know which job my parents will be most proud of me doing. Why do you think you know what they will like and what they won't". Continued Miriam, sweeping her hand across her face in annoyed gesture. The stranger controlled himself from bursting into a laugh. " She is indeed a courageous girl and little naive". He thought to himself. He placed his two hands on his lap and drew two imaginary straight lines on them, then he stared up at her. " Foretelling that your parents will be proud of you doing this job is just as simple as drawing this straight lines. You won't understand it now, but you will do when you really get to know what I am talking about". Miriam had stood, staring at him in silence for some seconds, she then heaved a resigned sigh and said. " What qualities do you say you guys are looking for in the workers you guys are recruiting for this 'job' you are talking about?. It was now the man's turn to stare at her in silence as he considered between answering the question or not. He could have easily declined answering it but at last, he decided to just tell her. " First is in here". he said, hitting the side of his head with his index finger. " We look for people with a particular kind of mindset. People whose thinking pattern is quite different from that of the average person. That's the first quality we look for in our potential employees. The second one is their body. Their height, they must be above 5 ft 8. Considered is also how fit they are and generally how they look. Their facial features, everything ". Expounded the man. Miriam exhaled slowly. Even after all the explanations, she still don't know how she got into this. Yes she is tall, getting close to 6 ft. But she still hadn't understand what the man mean by that their workers thinking pattern is different from that of the average person. " Am I thinking abnormally". She thought to herself. "What thinking pattern are you talking about?". Miriam asked folding the leg of her joggers. "You will get to know that soon". Said the man placing his two hands on both of the seat and pushed himself up. When he stood fully in his foot, Miriam couldn't help the surprised look that flashed across her face. He was very tall, a giant of a man. He was well above 6 ft 5. She felt dwarfed as she stared up at him. "You will get all the answers to your questions when you come to our office for your briefing". Continued the ma , giving her a reassuring gaze. "Here is the address you will come to 10:30 am tomorrow. Just keep the address safe with you. He said stretching out his hand with the white paper in it towards her. She stood still for a while staring at it, while a series of thought was running through her mind
