Feeders - Max and Axle

Chapter 6

“Thanks for coming today Dorian i hope you’re well” i politely state.

“I am, but I’m also fed up with having these meetings. I don’t see why we can’t just go back to our old ways, this obviously isn’t working some of your underling’s even look sick!” He tuts

"Because the king demands it! We have to find a new way forward, the humans were starting to hunt us as much as we were hunting them! whole nests was getting taken out for f**k sake!”

Dorian just shakes his head “Our clans are strong, they were only hitting the weak ones and quite frankly i don’t give a s**t about them as long as those I’ve sired are fed!!”

“You’re wrong, those vampires needed protecting not abandoning! we need to think of more ideas to bring in more humans!”

Dorian laughs “They wont come willingly, you're a fool if you think there's any other way around this! The clock is ticking and it wont be long before they start turning rouge with hunger then you’ll know I'm right!"

Axle slams his fists on his table "so you're not even going to bother trying anymore? you're just giving up?! The king will have your head!"

"I tried Axle, so have many other clans but we're starving what the f**k do you want us to do?!" he shouts while lunging to his feet! "Meetings over! Let me know when your plan fails Axle!" he spits before leaving, dragging that poor woman behind him.

"imbecile" i say under my breath as he slams the door.

I lean back on my chair with my hands over my face. there must be something everyone can get on board with! Maybe we can buy it? But that would drain our funds quicker than i could blink! Trade? there's nothing the humans want from us...

Max's POV

I spent the day hanging out with Patty, she's lovely! Apparently shes been here for seven years! she wants to be official mates with Blake but with the blood shortage they've put their plans on hold. she doesn't want to be turned and end up starving, at least this way she can still keep Blake fed.

It's actually quite sad to see, you can tell the ones living on the bare minimum, their eyes turn red, they're skinny, paler than the rest, dark shadows under their eyes. They look... weak? For a vampire that's an odd sight.

I quietly entered my room to find Axle sat at his desk on the phone. I go to our wardrobe to find the rest of my stuff packed away, i grab something to sleep in and head for a shower while Axle is busy.

once i'm clean and in my new silk pink nightie i head out to talk to Axle.

His still sat at his desk so I bit the bullet and took the seat in front of it "Hey, er i spoke to Patty today and it turns out there's no where around here to get anything sweet"

Axle lifts an eyebrow and sits back in his chair giving me his full attention "Is that a problem? humans only need fruit, vegetables and meat to stay healthy"

"Well yeah that's true but... we also like sweet things, It's like comfort food and the sugar would be good for refuelling after a feed" i smile hoping that'll help my case

"Is this something that could help the humans feel more comfortable here? Axle asks narrowing his eyes.

I lean forward placing my hands on my knees "yeah definitely, Patty said its something a lot of people round here are missing"

"Okay so what do you suggest? i'm not sure if that's possible ordering these 'sweet' things here just for the humans to enjoy, we already grow most of their food ourselves" he says with an annoyed huff.

"no i can just use what we already have here, i found nearly everything i needed in the shop i baked a batch of cookies today with patty, i just need a shop with a fully working kitchen, i'm sure i can find some people around here that'll want to help run it" i said biting my lip too nervous to get hopeful.

Axle sighs as he rolls his eyes "Fine, i'll find somewhere empty and ask some of my underlings to stock the kitchen"

My eyebrows shoot up in surprise "What?! Really?!" He nods "Yes, now i need to get back to this if there isn't anything else?"

I shuffle in my chair "actually... now that i'll be working as a baker, you know keeping the humans be all happy.. can i get out of feeding duty? seeing as i'll be so busy!"

Axle doesn't even bother looking at me from his paperwork "Nope" "arr fine"! i snap as i walk over to the bed, it was worth a try!

"Max get up" i'm woken by Axle sat next to me on the bed shaking my shoulder, "Max!"

"For f**k sake What!" I frown as i roll over to this annoying vampire not letting me sleep!!!

"I've got your shop ready, don't bakers start early?!" He throws keys onto my lap as he gets up.

"No way how did you do that in one night?!" I gasp. "Easy, we move quickly remember? it didn't take long, Blake knew where to get all the kitchen stuff from" He states with an unreadable face.

I leap out of bed and run for a shower before quickly throwing on jeans and a t-shirt. I stepped out of the wardrobe after putting my hair in a bun and nearly ran into Axle.

"Patty is waiting for you at the castle doors. she'll take you to it" i nod as i quickly grab the keys on the side and head to Patty!

As the castle doors open shes waiting for me bursting with excitement "Morning!" she basically sings. "Morning Patty so where is it?" she links her arm in mine and drags me to the small section on shops by the castle, as we walk closer i notice there's a picture of a cookie on the window, its a small shop but its perfect!

As we head in a bell rings above my head making my heart burst! "Oh my god it's even got a bell!" Patty giggled at me "yeah i made them get it, the bakery where i used to live had one, it wouldn't feel right without it"

I smile kindly at her "Yeah you're right it wouldn't. now should we get to work?"

The next few days speed past in a cloud of flour! It felt amazing to get back in the kitchen, we made everything! cakes, bagels, muffins, cookies!

Axle even had a coffee machine installed, it felt like home! We would arrive early and leave late after cleaning up the shop. Some of the customers were annoyed that i didn't take blood as payment but i have no use for it!

The next morning i slept in, exhausted from all the early starts but i decided we wont open on weekends until we train up some other bakers. Patty was getting tired too even though i knew she would still push on if it was what i wanted, she's becoming a really good friend!

I get up to find Axle asleep at his desk which is odd but i shrug it off and go for a shower. By the time I got out and dressed he was still slumped over the desk.

I narrowed my eyes as I noticed smoke coming from his back, the sun had crept in through the large window, i ran to quickly close the heavy black curtains then started smacking Axle on the back to make sure he wasn't catching a light!

He springs up wrapping his hand around my throat in one quick motion "s**t" whisper. "Sorry you were on fire, i wasn't just beating you for the fun of it!" I say trying to pull his hands away, that's when i notice his eyes are red, and he has dark smudges under his eyes

He releases his hold on my neck as he quickly turns away from me. "What's wrong? you look like s**t?"

"You need to feed" i whisper, Patty told me all about the signs.

"Yes i do, it started last night but i thought i'd wait till morning as you were asleep, But now that you're finally up"

he steps towards me and i take a step back.

"Do you still want it without my venom?" he asks in a deep husky voice.

My back comes into contact with the bookcase as i bite my cheek. "I don't want you to touch me" i whisper

"I have to while feeding, there's no getting around that princess" he comes closer and starts removing my neck band.

"No, i mean with the venom. it'll make me all needy and i wont be in control of my own body" Axle steps back and places my collar on the desk.

"Okay how about this" he rubs his chin in thought "I'll use my venom but i promise i will never touch you while i do"

"You wont?"

Axle shakes his head, "No i wont, i give you my word" he steps closer again "Okay"
