Chapter Twelve Winds of Fate This certainly isn’t the best plan I’ve ever had... Lodariel stumbled as she ran. The closest members of the pack of drakhalu giving chase were only a few feet behind. Her legs were weak with exhaustion. The yielding, uneven surface of the Shifting Sands had worn her out much more quickly than she had hoped. Sunrise was still hours away. The desert stretched in all directions, a sea of endless dunes. She looked for any sign of a campfire as she ran, but aside from her and the drakhalu, the area was empty.
