Teary eyes blinked up at me with a wide array of emotions dancing within them. Shock. Confusion. Disbelief. Hope. Those were the most prominent ones and somehow I was able to see all these things sparkle behind Roderick’s reddened eyes. He tried to blink the tears away before furiously rubbing his eyes with the backs of his hands to dry them. He looked like a child that way and it reminded me that there was a softhearted man behind all that muscle.
At some point, I had forgotten that.
“Sorry, I don’t think I heard you right.” The way he straightened up and puffed his chest out made me believe he was trying to play off the fact that he literally just balled his eyes out.
