I stood there watching as she got deeper into the water and eventually disappeared. The other two mermaids continued looking at me with awe and a kind of admiration.
"This one's cute. Looks hairy and timid", Almira laughed.
"What brought you here at such odd hour", Sefira asked
"I had to leave my friends and come here. They always made me feel terrible. So I prefer staying alone all to myself", I answered sadly
"Ohh my God. Have u been with Shakira before? Are you both into each other?", Almira suddenly became interested in the conversation
"Oh come on Mira, stop being ridiculous. I'm sure they just met judging from his reaction towards us. And besides, Kira has never mentioned another human ever since Mark left", Sefira seemed to scold her. Almira looked at me then chuckled again
"He looks so innocent", she noted
" You shouldn't visit places like this at night, for your own safety. It could be dangerous", Sefira advised sternly
"Buh u guys don't look dangerous at all. I mean no harm, I just needed a place to clear my head", I sat on the rock closest to me while my eyes were still admiring their body features
"Then befriend Kira, I'm sure she'll help u clear your head",
"You are too fast to talk without thinking", Sefira scolded more seriously this time
"You heard the human, he needs to clear his head",
Sefira in anger jumped into the water and was followed by Almira and they both swam deeper till they disappeared. I stood there for a while perhaps waiting for them to reappear buh after waiting for a long time, it became obvious they won't be coming back so I had to leave. I walked into the night through the lonely road on my way to my place thinking wen I felt someone following me, each time I turned back I won't see anyone. I wanted to run buh decided against it cos it would look stupid if eventually it turned out to be just the night breeze. I turned again to leave buh was confronted by three guys who had already surrounded me
"Who are you", one of them barked at me
"Oga good evening, abeg na me", I tried to hide that growing fear
"Ok na that smallie, wey dey follow Florence carry body for area", one of dem announced to the others
"Ok na u dey knack that Shima.......e don give u levels reach wey I go call u and u go waka pass me like the senior man wey u be abi", he was even demonstrating with his hands. All this was made visible by the night moon that made me see everything they did except their face
"Chairman shea u see wetin I dey tell u since, say we suppose don treat him f**k up since buh u dey show am sympathy", the other one hissed
"Senior man abeg no vex, maybe u call me buh I no hear. My head been don full that time abeg", I pleaded. This one seemed to anger the one that was their leader as he drew closer to me and gave me a slap worst than anything I had ever received in my life
"So I don too small for u abi wey u no fit see or observe abi. No worry that head wey full before go soon empty",
Before I could say another word, all three of them descended on me and gave me the beatings of my life. I don't know how I was able to wiggle my way thru them and ran like I had never done before. They did give chase buh soon retreated, I arrived back home to discover my friends had left, buh had closed my door for me. I got inside and immediately locked the door then almost at once, the aches and pains from the terrible beating started.
"Chai, all because of Florence", I murmured with regret and I laid on the bed slowly and started imagining how my life would have been if those guys had beaten me to their satisfaction. I slept off through my imagination totally forgetting about the three ladies I had met earlier in the stream
