Goddess Of Loneliness

chapter two

I grew up as the only son in a family of four children. My mom saw me as the only thing that God had used to save her marriage as she always told me about the everyday insult she received from my grandma for not being able to get a male child. I got everything I wanted from both my mom and dad. I won't say I was spoiled buh I was adequately cared for, I lived a live of luxury until my dad who was a car dealer was poisoned. No one knows how it happened buh my mom's meal was the only thing he tasted that day or so I was told so my mom was arrested, got mad in jail and was transferred to a psychiatric hospital from jail, everything was taken from us as my uncles claimed they weren't sure my dad was our biological father. I was just 6years by then, i moved from a life of luxury to a beggar overnight, Mary my immediate elder sister even ran off with a man who promised her a better life in Ghana three years after that and I have not seen her for 12years, my two other sisters had to work hard to help me through secondary school after which they got me toan apartment where I had been staying. I barely saw Promise, my eldest sister buh Abigail, my second sisters face was one I saw often.

I was still lost in my thoughts wen the sudden rush from inside the water drew my attention back to reality. I looked towards it and saw a bright glow from inside the water. I got up and started moving back ready to run if anything bad emerged. The glow became brighter as the object from under the water approached the surface untill I could see first her hair popping out of the water slowly, then her face which while inside the water shone really bright, then her body slowly till the whole of her popped out of the water onto a rock just by the bank of the stream. It was the first time I was seeing this, a lady with the body of a person and the tail of a huge fish. I stood transfixed watching with awe as she sat on the rock with her legs folded as if someone that was sad over something. I suddenly realized myself and started battling with the thoughts of either running away as fast as I could before the lady could see me or stand were I was because till then I wasn't sure she had seen me. I was still battling with those thoughts wen I saw another glow from inside the water, brighter this time and just like the first their heads popped out first until two other ladies like her popped out of the water and moved to the first lady and began conversing

"I knew just the right place to see u Kira", one of the two new ladies said to the first

"I dunno why I still believe I'll see him seated here one day just like that day", the first one said sadly

"Kira that was over 254years ago, two centuries has passed. This mortals can't live that long", the other chuckled as she jumped into the water and started swimming around

"I still blame myself you know, I caused it. I made his life miserable, maybe that's why I am who I am", she folded deeper into herself

"And who are you", the first lady asked her

"Oh please stop trying to tease her, do we have to remind her of who she is? the goddess of", the lady that was swimming was interrupted by me as I had stepped on something that broke while I was trying to get closer to see and even hear them well. The last two ladies that arrived immediately jumped into the stream and got deeper in an attempt to disappear while the first turned and made her face so bright towards the direction that I was hiding. I got up and made to run buh heard a voice from behind that made me freeze on the spot

"Please stop, I won't hurt you",
