Isla POV I walked back to Carmilla, my energy already drained from the party. She smiled sympathetically, holding a pastry on her plate. "Tired?" she asked. I nodded. "Let's get out of here. We can hang out at a mall or something... or a bar." She grinned. "We can't just go home after dressing up." "Does it really matter? And I think it's best to leave before my mother terrorises me." I took her hand to leave. She let out a disappointed sigh as I approached the door. But before I could even turn the handle, I felt a hand grab my hair from behind. I winced in pain, my hand flying up to grasp at it, and I turned to see who it was. My mother's face came into view, her hard, angry glare fixed on me. Carmilla stood shocked behind me, then stepped forward. She pushed my mother's hand away
