Alpha

Lunch time came around and my stomach was growling. I’m sure the guard outside my cell heard because every time it happened, he would look back. The last time my stomach growled loudly he turned around and maybe the comment that someone should’ve ate breakfast that was offered. A woman in a chef’s coat brought me a plate of food for lunch. She wore a smile that was so big I thought her lips would touch her ears. “I brought the alpha mate some lunch” she told the guard, still grinning from ear to ear. I walked up to the cell door and took the plate. “ Thank you”, I smiled back at her. When I said I didn’t think her smile could’ve gotten big, that was my mistake. Her face went blank and then she began grinning even bigger. “Your welcome Luna” she turned to the guard. “She talked to me” Smiling again and ran up the stairs. The fact that she called me the alpha mate, she called me Luna told me the alpha knew I was his mate! But why did he react the way he did? Why is he keeping me here in this cell? “You should probably actually eat that. You wouldn’t want the Alpha to hear what I have been hearing all morning.” The guard teased. “So… The alpha…...” I trailed the sentence on not really knowing exactly what I was going to ask or was hinting at. “He knows I’m his mate?” There I finally asked. I finally said it out loud. “Oh, he knows. He is just trying to figure out what he is going to do with you.” He spoke. What did that mean? Do with me? I was his mate. “So, he is thinking about rejecting me?” I asked, afraid of the answer. “Does it look like I know what the alpha is thinking? I’m just your guard. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact he is already engaged and living with his fiancé’.” For the second time today, my heart dropped. There it was. That was the reason why he had acted the way he did. That’s why he left me here. To hide me from his fiancé. Of course, there was someone else. Of course, he was already planning a marriage and making someone the Luna of this pack. Where does that leave me? I felt the tears forming in my eyes. I hurried and turned away from the guard so he wouldn’t see me cry. I would not let them see me as weak. I wanted to run away. I wanted to forget about finding a pack and just go back home. My mom would have the best advice and would be able to tell me what I should do. My father would say stay and show them that I could be the Luna. Make the Alpha wish I was his fiancé. I smiled at that thought. Goddess, I missed my parents. Maybe I was in over my head. I decided that the guard was right. I did need to eat my lunch and save myself from that embarrassment from the Alpha. I also decided to listen to my father in my head, or at least what I think he would tell me, and show the Alpha I was strong, and there would be no better Luna than myself. Besides his good looks, the Alpha had a great choice in the kitchen. I regret skipping breakfast more than ever. For lunch, the chef brought me spaghetti with a sauce I had never tasted before. With every bite, I thought I could taste a different ingredient. The garlic bread was homemade and was the tip of the iceberg. The first time I had ever cleared my plate and wish there was more. I heard the guard laugh a time or two and I am assuming it was because of the moan I would let escape with the bites every now and again. After I finished my lunch, I decided to find out some more about Alpha and his fiancé. “So, do you just hang out in the dungeon all the time?” I asked. “ Everyone has their jobs. This one is mine.” “So the Alpha-“ “Listen, I’m not going to give you details on the Alpha until I know if you are staying or not. I am loyal to him.” He cut me off. “I wasn’t going to ask you that.. I was going to say….” I let the sentence hang while I thought of something. “....has a nice dungeon…” I closed my eyes and put my hand on my face. I wasn’t even impressed with that one, but it was the best I could come up with. When I opened my eyes and put my hand down, the guard was looking at me. He laughed and turned back around. “I like you, your funny.” He said, with a chuckle. His comment made me smile. Suddenly, I saw his stance change. He straightened up and looked like a statue. Then it hit me. That intoxicating smell. It was like I was in a cartoon and just floated onto the set. I waited at the cell gate. I knew the Alpha was here. My wolf was going crazy. My body was going crazy. I had to get it together if I was going to stick to my plan, but my legs felt like jello. “Leave us.” He ordered in his Alpha tone. The guard nodded and left us alone. He came and stood in front of the cell door. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I stood there infront of him holding onto the two bars in front of my face. He came but inches away from me. He stood so tall that my head barely reached his chest. I know he could feel my heavy breathing on his shirt. I looked up at him, he was just staring at me. He placed his hand through the bars and placed it on my cheek. My wolf was loving this and was soaking it up. I closed my eyes and pushed my cheek deeper into his hand. I could stay like this for a while. The feelings that were shooting through my body were like no other. All I wanted was to feel his hand on every part of me. When he pulled away, I flinched. I wasn’t expecting it, I felt my bottom lip stick out in a pout. I hurried and turned away so he would not see me pout. When I looked back at him, he was pacing and running his fingers through his hair. Oh, how I wished I could be his hair right now. “Why did you have to come now?” He asked, still pacing. I wasn’t sure if he was really talking to me or himself. Should I answer? I opened my mouth to reply but he cut me off “I was about to get married in two weeks. I thought I loved Abby. Then you showed up. As soon as I came through the front door, I smelled you, I felt you. My wolf has not settled down since this morning. He wants me to let you out. But I love Abby.” He paused and stopped pacing and looked at me. “But the feeling I have for you, and I don’t even know you. I know you are my mate. It pains me to even think of being away from you. You are the rightful Luna of this pack.” Still looking at me. I didn’t know if I should speak. He shook his head and then asked “Why are you here?” I waited a minute before answering him, trying to find my voice again. “I’m a rouge, I was born a rouge. I just turned eighteen yesterday. I left my family because I wanted to join a pack. Living life as a rouge was not for me. I wanted to belong to a pack. So, I left yesterday, I made it here to Sugar Hill, went to the bed and breakfast, and then was woke up by your three men who brought me here.” I paused to see if he had anything to say. “I didn’t plan on meeting you. Well, I planned to meet you to see if you would accept me into the pack, but I didn’t plan to meet you like this." I noticed I was walking around in circles as I was talking. The Alpha was looking at me curiously. “My name is Emma, by the way. I didn’t plan on meeting my mate, and I didn’t plan on you being my mate. I’m sorry this has inconvenienced you.” I put an empished on the word “inconvenienced”. He let out a small laugh. “But the moon goddess made us mates for a reason.” This made him think. He began pacing around the room, deep in thought. “I’m sorry,” I said shyly, looking at the ground. I went back to sit on the bed. “You can go ahead and reject me if you like. I won’t argue, I won’t fight it. And then I can be on my way and you can resume your engagement.” I felt a tear fall from my eye. The Alpha must have noticed because I heard the cell door unlock and he was quickly in front of me to wipe the tear. “I won't reject you. An Alpha needs his mate. The pack needs their Luna. The true mate, the true Luna, is you. I love Abby, but what I feel for her does not compare to the pull I have towards you. My wolf is going crazy for you right now. Your crying makes me sick. It hurts me to see you shed a tear. I want to make sure you never feel the need to cry.” He was holding my face in his hands. He had the deepest blue eyes. I could stare and get lost in them forever. Just his touch was sending chills throughout my body. My wolf was having a frenzy with him touching us and being so close. She wanted him closer and honestly so did I. When I saw a smile form on his lips I realized I had been staring maybe too long. I pulled away and looked down. “You still have not told me your name.” I said shyly while moving some loose rock with my foot. He let out a small chuckle, stood up and began walking around again. “My name is Nathan Jax. Nate for short.” That name suited him. He looked like a Nathan. We both stayed silent for a while. “So what do we do from here?” I asked, my voice a bit shaky. I knew what I wanted to do, but I honestly didn’t know what he wanted. He had said he wouldn’t reject me, but is he going to let me be his true mate? I couldn’t do it if I lived with him and he still got married. “What do you mean? The only thing there is to do. You’re my mate. You will come back with me to the packhouse and live with me there.” He sounded proud of himself when he said this. “What about your fiancé?” I asked, still shaky. “I’ve already taken care of that. It’s over. I have found you.” He smiled, stroking my cheek. I pushed my face deeper into his hand and closed my eyes. “Don’t worry about her. I’ve taken care of it. If a problem comes, I’ll still take care of it. You are mine. I will protect you at all cost. From anyone and everyone.” He gave me a soft kiss on the forehead and an electric shock ran from where he kissed me to my feet. He turned away from me and walked to the cell door holding it open. He gestured for me to walk through and follow him. I bit my bottom lip thinking about my next move when I saw his eyes go dark and he walked towards me and took my face in his hands. His eyes stayed dark as he studied my face. I was still biting my lip. “I would suggest if you don’t want me to take you here and mark you now, I stop biting that lip.” I swallowed. Loudly. And released my lip. He turned and once again gestured to me through the door. I hurriedly walked through keeping my head down so he wouldn’t see the blush that had rushed to my cheeks. I couldn’t believe he had just said that. I wanted to hear more. My wolf was going crazy. My body was heated up and I felt like the blush had made a perminate home on my cheeks. What was wrong with me? Why on Earth would I be having these thoughts about a man I had just met. I've always heard stories of the Mate bond, but I never would have thought it would affect me this much. Once beside him, he took my hand in his and gave me a small smile and began to lead me out of the dungeon.
