Consequences

I stayed silent as we walked back to the room. Becca was trying to make conversation with me but I would give her a nod here and there. “Okay Em, here we are.” Becca motioned me to the room. “Thanks, Becca. Thank you for the food. It was delicious. I'm sorry I didn’t finish it.” I said, looking down at the floor. “It's okay dear! Don’t be sorry. I'll be here outside the door. If you need anything, you just let me know. Go get some rest. You’ve had a very long day.” I smiled at her and made my way into the room. The room was dark and felt cold without Nate. The bed is where I wanted to be. I wanted to curl up under the blankets and never come back out. I didn’t bother to turn on the lights. I climbed on to the huge bed and curled up under the blankets. The blankets, sheets, and pillows smelled just light Nate. I felt a ping in my heart and began to cry. All of my thoughts from the kitchen of Nate being with her came rushing back to me. I began to cry an ugly cry. Uncontrollable, unstoppable crying. “Em, are you okay dear?” Becca said through the door. “Could.. You... Please.... Get Nate... Please...” I said through sobs. “Of course. I'm mind linking him now.” Becca was silent a few minutes. “Dear? Nate has his link blocked from everyone.” I couldn’t answer her. I was once again crying. Now with new thoughts. What if something happens? What if roughs attack? What if I needed him? I need him now. My heart was aching. My chest was hurting. Did Nate not feel any of this? Why would he have his link blocked? What was he doing that was so important that he didn’t want to be bothered? It felt like hours had passed. I had finally stopped crying. I don’t know if it was because so long had passed or if it was because I just didn’t have any more tears to cry. I decided I wouldn’t let Nate see me like that. I threw the covers off and saw the sun was starting to come up. Nate still had not returned. He had been gone all night. My first night here. It was supposed to be our first night together. And he spent it with her. My heart pinged again. “No. I'm done crying no more.” I had made my mind up that I would accept his rejection when he got back. No matter how badly it hurt, I would not give him or her the satisfaction of me crying. I would accept it and then leave the packhouse. I didn’t care if the Moon Goddess never gave me a second chance mate. I would find a pack and work within it. I didn’t need a mate to be happy. But man, was I happy with Nate. No Em ‘stop’ it. I got out of bed and walked to the door. “Becca, are you still here?” “No Luna. Its John. Do you need anything?” “Have you heard from Nate?” Hope fluttered in my heart. “I was sent up here to give Becca some rest. He said he would speak with you when he gets back Luna.” “Dont call me that. I will not be your Luna.” I heard silence on the other side. A bath sounded great. I needed to relax if I was going to keep my cool when Nate returned with Abagail. I wanted to use that huge tub anyway. I might as well before I left. I went into the closet and decided to go ahead and put my things back in my suitcase. This would save time. When Nate got back, I wanted to leave as quickly as possible. I went with wearing a pair of grey shorts and a white tank top. I wanted to show Nate what he would be missing by rejecting me, but also figured it would be easier to run in. Leaving my suitcase outside the door of the closet, I went to the bathroom and shut the door, locking it behind me. The tub was in the middle of the floor. I started my water and poured in some bubble bath that was sitting on the counter. I undressed and climbed into the tub. Yesterday was such a long day, with so much happening, my muscles ached. The hot water felt amazing on my body. I sat thinking of all the events that happened. My dreams had come true. My dreams were about to be ripped away from me just as fast as they had come true. As I was lying there thinking of my next moves, once Nate came back, there was a knock on the door. My heart knew who it was. His smell filled the room and my heatached. My wolf begged me to run to him and make sure he was okay. I knew what was coming. I knew I had to stay strong. “Em?” It was nate. Stop it Emma. You need to let go now. “Yes?” “Open the door. We need to talk.” Here it goes. My heart broke. “ I'll be out in a minute.” I said through silent sobs. “Em open the door. I do not want to do this right now. I am tired.” “Tired of what? I guess I would be tired if I were up with another woman all night too” I spit the words out. I am angry now. How dare he say he doesn't have time for this? He had all night with her. He at least owes this to me. “ I'm coming.” I jumped out of the bath, threw my hair up into a messy bun, dried off and put my shorts on. I held my bra in my hand and decided that if I was going out, I was going out with a bang. I left the bra on the counter and pulled my tank on. My n*****s were hard and poking through from being cold. I smiled at myself in the mirror. I looked hot. I looked sexy. He was going to think about the time he rejected his mate. “You can do this, Em”, I whispered to myself. I turned and opened the door, Nate was sitting on the edge of the bed, his legs stretched out and crossed at his feet with his hands on the bed holding himself up. His eyes widened when he looked at me. They went straight for my harden n*****s. His eyes turned black. I ignored him and went to my suitcase. “Why is your suitcase packed? Em we need to talk. Where are you going?” He asked as he watched me. “No Nate. There is nothing to talk about. I understand its okay. She was before me. Maybe the Moon Goddess made a mistake.” I felt the tears coming. I took a deep breath, pushing them back. Nate looked surprised at me for saying this. Was that pain in his face? My heart skipped. No, stop it. ‘ I'll see myself out. Can you at least give me a ride back into town? You can do it there.” I grabbed my suitcase and began rolling toward the door. “ I'm so confused. What are you talking about Em? Did someone say something to you?” I had my hand on the door. “No, no one said anything to me. Actions say a lot more than words. You didn’t come back last night. My first night here. I spent it alone. You were with her. While I was here waiting for you to get back, waiting, thinking horrible things. Trying to get you to come back but you had your link blocked. Because you were with her. So no one said anything to me. I was alone and I needed you. You made it clear. Its okay really. You guys have history, we only have a mate bond. We have no memories together. So it's okay. I'll accept it.” downstairs. Nate looked like he had seen a ghost. His eyes had tears in them that were on the edge of falling. Maybe the mate bond hurts when you reject your mate. I opened the door and walked out. “EM!” Nates' voice boomed through the whole house. But I kept walking. I didn’t get far when I ran into John.. “ Luna, Im So-” John looked me over an realised I had no bra on, this was when Nate had came out of the room. John looked at the wall. Nate rushed in front of me. He let a growl out at John, who bowed his head in submission. “Isnt there something else you should be doing then eyeing my mate John?” Nate asked, anger pulsing through his body. “I was coming to guard the door, Nate. Im sorry.” “Leave. Go find something else to do. I don’t need you to guard the door when I am here.” Nates' voice boomed and John quickly left the hall. “Nate, why would you talk to him like that? What is wrong with you? He didn’t do anything wrong.” Nate stood facing away from me. I could tell he was trying to calm down. “Nate!” I said louder. If he was going to act this way and reject me, he was going to speak to me too. “He looked at what is mine. You are mine. No one will see your body. You are mine!” my wolf perked up. She had been hiding in a corner since last night just whimpering. I couldn’t tell which were louder, my cries or hers, at some point. “Until you reject me, right? Then it doesn’t matter what happens to me, who sees me, or who I sleep with.” Nates' body stilled. He turned to face me. “Why would you even say that, Em?” I pushed the tears back. I guess I was going to have to do it. “that's why you didn’t come home last night, right? You were with her, right?” “Yes, but your-” “Then that’s it. You chose her. She convinced you to choose her over me.” A tear fell down my cheek. Nate raised his hand to wipe the tear but I pulled away and backed up. I saw the hurt in his face. “you're going to reject me so you can go through with your marriage to Abagail. Aren't you?” More tears escaped my eyes. I could tell my eyes were red and puffy. I thought I could do this without tears. I thought, no, I was sure I had cried all my tears. I could cry. Nate closed the distance between us. He wiped my tears and I couldnt help but lean into his hands. “We have memories.” My eyes lit up with hope. “The first time I saw you in the cell. My heart stopped. Everything stopped. I could smell lillies and cotton candy before I hit the entrance of the doungen. I knew you were here without even seeing you. The first time I put my hand on your face and you leaned into it just like you just did, I never wanted to move my hand. You looked so peaceful. When I told my mother I had found you and I called off the wedding, I remember how happy she was and how happy and proud I was to tell her about you. Yesterday, in my room, on my bed, your kiss, the way it sent sparks rushing and exploding throughout my body, I wanted more.” My heart was breaking. Was I really being this petty? This is overdramatic. I looked down. “Don’t turn away from me, Love. Please.” I looked up at him as my heartbeat began to race. “So... Your not rejecting me?” “Of course not. You’re my mate for life. Unless you don’t want me.” “I want you.” “Good. Come on, let's go back to the room. Im exhusted.” “Not until you tell me why you didn’t come home last night.” He looked at me with a sad look. “I was with Abagail.” There it was. I couldn’t be with someone who wasn’t faithful. He can't have both of us. “I don’t want to share you with Nate.” He let out a laugh. “What makes you think I want to be shared?” “I don’t want abagail Em.” “Then why are you so gentle with her? Easy. Smooth almost. Why were you with her all night last night?” “I kicked her out of the packhouse. I wasn’t with her alone. Nick, my brother was with me.” “Where did she go? She isn't a rouge, is she?” I didn’t like Abagail and didn’t want her anywhere near Nate, but I didn’t want her to be thrown out. “No. Not yet. We moved her to the edge of the border. I only stayed to be sure it got done the way I wanted it to get done. I wanted her far away from the pack house, from you. From us. We do have history; our parents were best friends and so we were growing up. I did care for her. But when I found you, all of that changed. I was willing to let her stay in the packhouse but I see how she was around you and I couldn’t risk you getting hurt. You mean more to me in these few days then she has ever been. It was always forced with her. I had to force myself to be happy around her once we started a relationship. I was never attracted to her. It was always like a brotherly sister love to me. But it was different with her. And whenever I took over alpha, the title went to her head.” My heart was fluttering, my stomach was doing cartwheels. “Can you please say something Love?” “So you really don’t want to reject me?” Nate laughed “No, I don’t want to reject you. If I'm being honest, I want to mark you right now. The way your breast is poking out of your shirt is driving my wolf insane.” I couldn’t take it any longer. I was longing for Nate's lips pressed against mine. I jumped up and threw my arms around him and pressed my lips to his. Nate picked me up and I wrapped my arms around his waist. I deepen the kiss.
