**Vale’s POV**

I started noticing things… little by little.

The way she laughed freely when she forgot herself. The way she didn’t treat me like everyone else did—fawning over my money or status. And it bothered me, because I actually cared.

“You’re staring,” Mia said one evening. We were alone in the living room again.

“I’m always alone in my thoughts,” I replied.

“About?”

I hesitated. “About how things were supposed to be simple.”

Mia smirked slightly. “And now?”

“They’re not.”

“You’re breaking your own rules,” she said softly.

Feeling shy, I quickly stormed out of the room with a smile I couldn’t hide.
