Cedric walked in with faltering steps. However, because his legs had only been able to stand for a few years, he finally lost his steady footing. The man eventually fell miserably. When he tried to stand up again, he kept failing to try.
His legs were weak and losing strength because he had been forced to walk for a long time without training slowly first.
Edith stared at the scene with clenched fists. She glanced at Cedric who was now trying to crawl towards her.
The woman's gaze turned bright, feelings of anger, disappointment, and sadness. But the feeling of annoyance was the most dominant. Why did the man come at a time like this? Why did he interfere? What right did he have to do all that?
All thoughts and questions continued to rage, bothering Edith for a long time. She looked complicatedly at Cedric who was finally able to sit on one of the chairs there.
Evan's laughter was then heard. He looked at the man with a look of obvious contempt. "I really pity my sister for having to marry a pathetic person like you."
Cedric didn't reply, he just wiped his slightly dirty pants, not intending to entertain his brother-in-law's words.
Seeing no response, Evan became annoyed. But he laughed instead. "You've been paralyzed for a long time and now you're acting pathetic. Where's your pride, buddy?"
"Is that any of your business?" Cedric replied coldly. He subconsciously snorted. "An i***t like you won't understand anything."
"Bastard!" Evan shouted. He glared. "You useless cripple, do you think that by cursing at me, you'll get what you want? Too bad, Edith will still lose her shares and position in the end! She'll definitely suffer a lot!"
Cedric glanced at the figure sharply. "As I said before, Edith won't lose anything."
Evan laughed sarcastically. He approached, staring at Cedric's face closely. "You just said that I'm an i***t, but the i***t is actually you! I never thought that such an i***t would come into my life! A crippled and useless i***t. Aren't you just going to burden Edith? Why do you keep insisting that she can get what she wants? Can you help her?"
"Yes, I can help her." Cedric answered without any hesitation at all.
Once again, Evan's laughter was heard. He even had tears in the corners of his eyes. "What can a cripple like you do? You're crippled, useless, and have no power whatsoever. Why are you acting so confident? Are you stupid or an i***t?"
"Are you stupid? Being pampered seems to have made your brain unable to function properly?" Cedric rolled his eyes lazily.
"Bastard!" Evan approached, he pulled Cedric's collar until the man looked up at him. "Say it again! Let's see if you have the courage to call me an idiot."
Edith closed her eyes for a moment before she walked over. With a slow movement, the woman pushed her younger brother.
Evan looked like he was about to explode, but Edith didn't care. She raised her hand without hesitation and swung it towards Cedric, slapping him. "Stop it right there."
"Edith?" Cedric stared at his wife in surprise. He moved to rub his now throbbing cheek.
Edith closed her eyes once again, holding back all the emotions that were burning in her heart. "Can you stop humiliating me?"
Edith's words undoubtedly made Cedric freeze in his place. He stared at his wife in shock. "Edith, it's not like that. I mean—"
"You're humiliating me so much, do you know that? Crawling? Don't you have any self-respect?" Edith's emotions exploded uncontrollably. She shook her head in frustration. "You're really humiliating me! Now is the moment I'm betting so much on! In the middle of such a crucial moment, why did you come?"
"Edith, please listen to my explanation first." Cedric tried to approach, but he fell off his chair. The man tried to stand up but failed. In the end, he could only struggle to sit back on the chair.
Seeing the scene, Edith became even angrier. She clenched her fists tightly and immediately pushed the man. "Enough! You should leave. Don't spend any more time here! You've embarrassed me! Your presence is only t*****e for me! You, you, you tarnish my dignity!"
"Edith, I didn't mean it," Cedric murmured softly. "I just want to help you, I don't want you to face all the problems alone. Please don't misunderstand Edith."
"Even if you have such good intentions, with your current condition, you can only embarrass me, Cedric!" Edith exclaimed. She could no longer hold back. The woman fell down and started crying. "You've messed everything up. My life has been messed up since you came. Now, we're about to part, but you're still making me so tortured, Cedric. Can you just leave?"
"Edith please don't be like this." Cedric tried to grab Edith's shoulder, but the woman immediately moved away. "This is my fault because I'm useless okay? So please don't cry. Please stand up, Edith."
"Enough!" Edith lowered her head, she wiped her face roughly then stood up, staring coldly at her husband. "You've ruined my life enough so far, Cedric. I've filed for divorce from you, why are you doing this to me? You even know yourself how important this meeting is to me."
"I just want to help, Edith," replied the man. "I don't want you to be abused. I don't want to divorce you either, Edith."
"Is it because you don't want to lose your financial source? Cedric, don't be greedy, I'll give you compensation money. Why do you still want more?"
"No Edith, it's not like that."
"Never mind." Edith took a deep breath. "I'll give you one last chance, after that let's separate amicably. I'll also add compensation money from our divorce."
"No, it's not like that. I don't want—"
"Stand up now," Edith interrupted sharply. She had never expected anything. She knew very well that Cedric couldn't stand, she couldn't expect anything.
