Penelope wasn’t in the slightest bit tempted to walk beside Luca. Fangs might have sounded better than claws, but that didn’t mean she wanted to face them. A glance towards the hunters showed they too had drawn weapons. Her hand momentarily rested on the hilt of the dagger. She left it sheathed. It was pointless drawing it when she had no idea how to use it. Luca ran ahead, a blur of movement. Alex and Malachi shared a look, Malachi glancing at Penelope before nodding towards Alex, who gave a single nod. Malachi ran after Luca, leaving Alex behind, their exchange having taken only seconds. Penelope walked quicker, her feet and legs protesting. A pity Luca wasn’t the sort of jinn to grant wishes. “You two have fought together before.” Alex nodded. “He talks a lot more than you.” Alex
