The hunters left after they’d said goodbye, the sound of their engines fading into the distance. Luca took out the lantern, turning it on for the walk back to his vehicle. They were silent. Penelope sat in the passenger seat, trying to think of a way to ask him what he planned to do next. In the end she drifted off to sleep, waking when the engine was silent. Blinking, it took her a few seconds to realise she was at Luca’s house.
