After Penelope showered and called the priest, she joined Luca on the patio where breakfast was set out on the table. “Emily and Dan haven’t returned.” She stared at the food in front of her, not really seeing it. “What are we going to do?”
“You can stay here and I’ll lead them away like I did last night. It works well. You’ll be safe.”
“No. I can’t sit here all night while you risk your life out there. I need to know what’s going on, not pace the rooms of your house waiting for you to come home.”
Luca stared at her for a moment before he nodded. “Eat your breakfast. We’ll leave shortly.”
“What about Rusty?”
“He’ll be fine here. I’ll send a text to the one who takes care of my house and let him know Rusty is here and to check on him while we’re gone.”
