THE THING IN FRONT of Mina made a sucking, moaning noise as a blade formed at the end of its right arm. It lumbered forward and swung. Numbed by shock, she barely stepped back in time to avoid a blade embedded in her torso. Still, it sliced through her pant leg, despite being made of mud, and her thigh stung as a line of flesh opened up. She staggered back. She gaped at the simulation of her brother's face, but a snarl behind her drew her attention around. The large wolf she'd shot dragged himself forward. Half human, half animal, his hindquarters bled profusely from the wound she'd given him. A pang stabbed at that spot where rib cage gave way to abdomen, reminding her she wielded real weapons and could deal death. The pang passed as his jaws snapped towards her arm. She jumped sideways,
